This position works with a wide range of on-campus programs and must not only adhere to university policies and procedures but also to NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.This position will provide counseling and mentoring to student-athletes regarding academic, athletic, career, and identify at-risk student-athletes. The long range impact of this position is critical in providing services which enhance the retention and graduation rates of the student athletes. The academic success or failure of student-athletes receives a great deal of public scrutiny and significantly impacts the University's reputation. The success of this position relies heavily on relationships with coaches, student athletes, faculty and staff.

Examples of Duties

• Provide counseling and mentoring to student-athletes regarding academic, athletic, career and/or personal issues.
• Arrange meeting with at-risk student-athletes, and provide additional support services.
• Oversee incoming freshman student-athletes attending summer school.
• Assist with monitoring the degree progress of student-athletes as well as academic performance by individual and team.
• Work with Assistant AD Student Services and coaches to develop academic goals for teams and student-athletes.
• Provide supervision of graduate assistant(s), interns, and student workers.
• Coordinate and organize hiring of tutors for student-athletes, as well as, classroom assistants and study table monitors. Coordinate study table for student-athletes.
• Provide recruiting presentations to prospective student-athletes and families.
• Supervise community service projects performed by student-athletes.
• Assist with minority mentoring program for student-athletes.
• Provide testing and evaluation to incoming student-athletes to determine academic mentoring needs.

• Assist in planning and implementation of Summer Bridge program for incoming freshmen.
• Serve as liaison to academic and non-academic departments.
• Assist with use of University Absence Policy by student-athletes for absences due to travel for competition.
• Maintain academic counseling records of student athletes.
• Coordinate laptop check out for student-athletes traveling for competition.
• Gather data and complete academic and scholarship nominations.
• Assist with organization of annual Scholars Academic Banquet.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree with one (1) year of experience in student advisement, mentoring, or education.
Or, Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in student advisement, mentoring, or education.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference given to candidates with higher education and NCAA Athletics experience.
