Engage: Prioritize the experience and personal well-being of student-athletes, develop and renovate athletics facilities in accordance with University and ICA objectives and priorities, generate resources necessary to support the student-athlete experience, competitiveness, and infrastructure, and foster and inspire partnerships within the department, University, the surrounding community, and the corporate community.

About the Position:

Provide direct academic support for student-athletes, including but not restricted to, academic skill development, learning strategy assistance, monitoring of academic performance and progress, oversight of tutoring, and assistance with registration and orientation.

Responsibilities:

• Academic Support to Student-Athletes:

  • Academic skill development;
  • Learning strategy assistance;
  • Monitoring of academic performance and progress;
  • Oversight of tutoring;
  • Assistance with registration and orientation; and
  • Assist student-athletes in utilizing other campus resources.

• Collaboration and Communication:

  • Develop and distribute periodic reports to athletic coaches and other officials on the status of student-athletes;
  • Consult with coaches and other university officials on matters related to student-athlete academic progress and performance; and
  • Assist in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes.

• Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Perform administrative duties that contribute to the academic success of student-athletes;
  • Responsible for purchasing of academic equipment (books, iClickers, etc.) and monthly reconciliation of equipment; and
  • Maintain student-athlete academic files.

• University Standards and Compliance:

  • Demonstrate commitment to the highest ethical standards of the university; and
  • Maintain and apply current knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), A-10 and university requirements regarding student-athlete eligibility.

• Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or VP of Athletics.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of study or equivalent related experience;
• Previous experience with academic support services for adolescents and young adult learners;
• Skill in operating a personal computer and associated software (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.);
• Skill in effective and appropriate communication;
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information;
• Ability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community, and the public;
• Ability to maintain files accurately, on paper, and in software programs;
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously;
• Ability to demonstrate effective athletic personnel and programmatic administration, leadership, and supervisory skills and strategies;
• Ability to relate to student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty, and parents;
• Ability to meet the needs of student-athletes experiencing adjustment or academic difficulties; and
• Ability to monitor continuing eligibility and satisfactory progress of student-athletes each semester/term using APR, NCAA, and University guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree in appropriate area of study and three (3) or more years of related experience in intercollegiate athletics administration;
• Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations as well as APR used by NCAA institutions;
• Knowledge of University and degree requirements;
• Ability to interpret and adhere to NCAA Rules and George Mason Academic Standards; and
• Familiarity with university purchasing procedures.
