Tennessee State University Division of Athletics invites applications for the position of Academic Services and Tutorial Coordinator.
The Academic Services and Tutorial Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the academic
success and retention of NCAA Division I student-athletes. This position is responsible for
coordinating academic support services, including the tutoring program and study hall, while also
monitoring academic progress and eligibility. The coordinator works closely with coaches, academic advisors, faculty, and other campus partners to ensure student-athletes meet both university and NCAA academic standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Academic Support Coordination:
• Coordinate academic support services for assigned teams, including individualized academic plans and study strategies.
• Monitor student-athletes’ academic performance and progress toward degree completion and NCAA eligibility requirements.
• Collaborate with academic advisors and student success specialists to support at-risk
student-athletes.
Tutorial Program Management:
• Oversee the recruitment, hiring. training. and evaluation of tutors and academic mentors.
• Schedule tutoring sessions and ensure appropriate tutor-student-athlete pairings.
• Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and monitor the effectiveness of the tutorial
program.
Study Hall Oversight:
• Supervise study hall operations. including scheduling. attendance tracking. and enforcement of
academic expectations.
• Analyze student study hall performance and adjust programming as needed.
Compliance & Reporting:
• Maintain accurate documentation of all academic support activities to ensure compliance with
NCAA, Ohio Valley Conference, and Tennessee State University regulations.
• Prepare regular reports on student-athlete academic performance for coaches and athletics
executive leadership.
Communication & Collaboration:
• Serve as a liaison between academic units, athletics staff, and student-athletes.
• Participate in team meetings, staff development, and academic progress review sessions as
needed.
• Communicate effectively with coaches regarding academic concerns or updates.
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and demonstrate a commitment to student success.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed to support student-athletes.
Working Conditions:
• Office environment with some evening and weekend hours based on team travel, study hall, and
academic programming.
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• At least 1-2 years of experience working in athletic academic support or a related field in
higher education.
• Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations related to academic eligibility and
progress-toward-degree requirements.
Preferred Qualifications :
• Master’s degree in education. counseling, sport management. or a related field.
• Experience working with NCAA Division I student-athletes.
• Previous experience managing tutoring programs and/or academic support initiatives.
Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a criminal background check as mandated by Tennessee State University.
