TITLE OF POSITION: Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services

POSITION REPORTS TO: Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Athlete Development
OVERVIEW:
Manhattan University, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC), is seeking a qualified candidate for a 12 month, full-time position as Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services. The Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services (SAASS), under the supervision of the Director of Athletics & Senior Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Development, is responsible for the overall academic success and retention of student-athletes participating in Manhattan University’s 19 Division I intercollegiate athletics teams. The Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success Services provides guidance and counseling, monitors academic progress and eligibility, and focuses on the overall well-being of all student-athletes. This is an in person on campus non - remote position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervises the Assistant Director of Student-Athlete Academic Success Services.
Oversees the academic progress from matriculation to graduation of all student-athletes. Distribute reports to coaches, support staff and various academic and athletic administrators regarding the academic progress of assigned student-athletes. Supports Manhattan University's efforts to ensure the commitment to athletics, academics, personal growth, service, and career enhancement.
Coordinates with Academic Advisors, Assistant Deans and Athletic Department to assist student-athletes in meeting their academic objectives, progress toward degree, and NCAA eligibility requirements.
Works with campus personnel with regard to transition to college issues, career development issues, and resources available through such services as the Counseling Center, and the Specialized Resource Center.
Develops, implements, and monitors creative intervention programs to enhance the development of time management and study skills for student-athletes. Mentors academically “at-risk” student-athletes and determines appropriate intervention strategies.
Conducts weekly or bi-weekly meetings with “at-risk” student-athletes
Facilitate student-athlete Study Hall Program
Maintains appropriate documentation and records to verify compliance with all NCAA, Conference, and University policies, rules, and regulations. As a representative of Manhattan University continually demonstrate honesty, dignity and integrity when communicating with staff, students and peers both internally and externally. Promote an atmosphere for compliance by maintaining a working knowledge of NCAA/MAAC Conference rules and regulations.
Works closely with the Assistant Vice President for Academic Success, Athletic Director, Athletic Administration, NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative, faculty, and coaches to provide guidance and academic support for student-athletes.
Assists with student-athlete recruitment.
Design, facilitate, and evaluate Jasper Jumpstart Orientation Program for all incoming student-athletes.
Coordinate all academic intervention and academic success services.
Regularly collect and analyze data from all programs with a focus on new initiatives to strategically enhance student-athletes overall development.
Maintain social media (Twitter & Instagram) accounts.
Work with student-athletes and faculty to coordinate and proctor make-up exams.
Represent Manhattan University at academic and athletic conferences as it pertains to our responsibilities.
Occasional travel with teams to ensure that sufficient amount of time is allocated to academic course work.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree required
Working knowledge of NCAA athletic eligibility regulations, commitment to academic integrity, and compliance with Manhattan University, MAAC conference, and NCAA regulations.
Effective organizational skills, strong listening and communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work and communicate effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse educational and social backgrounds.
Maintain a working knowledge of the NCAA and MAAC Conference rules and regulations and Manhattan Univeristy Policies and Procedures. Operate with the guidelines, policies and procedures in your area of responsibility within the department to ensure 100% compliance with the NCAA/MAAC rules and regulations relative to your department.
Three (or more) years’ experience required.
Working knowledge of Banner.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
High level of organization, attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
