The full-time Assistant Athletic Trainer will maintain and coordinate a comprehensive sports medicine program for Spalding University athletics under the leadership of the Head Athletic Trainer. Â

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform professional and administrative services essential for the success of the program under the supervision of the Head Athletic Trainer
• Duties will include injury prevention, emergency care, first aid and physical rehabilitation of injuries incurred by Spalding University's intercollegiate athletes
• Will organize and conduct medically prescribed sports rehabilitation and conditioning programs following an injury and be responsible for appropriate organization and implementation of athletic insurance claim paperwork and follow-up as necessary
• Also supervise and participate in the teaching of graduate athletic training students enrolled in an innovative, new entry-level Master of Science Degree Program in Athletic Training. Some weekends and overnight travel are required
• Other Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Practice and game supervision/coverageÂ
• Effective communication with athletes, coaches, families, university officials, and physiciansÂ
• Referring athletes for appropriate diagnostic, follow-up procedures, and injury tracking.Â

Qualifications

SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTSÂ Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â

• Applicants must be certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) and eligible for licensure in the state of Kentucky
• A Master’s degree and previous collegiate athletic training experience is preferred
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication, multitasking, and budget management skills in addition to knowledge of the NCAA
• Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multitaskÂ
• Proficiency in Microsoft word, Excel, and Power PointÂ
• Knowledge of and understanding of NCAA rules and regulationsÂ
• Understanding of and/or willingness to learn an NCAA Division III academic and sports culture Â
• A strong background in professional athletic trainingÂ
• Past work with student-athletes at the high school and/or collegiate level Â
• Commitment to inclusiveness and collegiality in personal and professional work and mentoring students and faculty on the importance of multicultural and multidisciplinary applications Â
• Commitment and alignment with Spalding University’s Mission is essentialÂ
• Regular or daily contact with administration, faculty, staff, and students.Â
• Regular contact with the general public.Â
• Must be able to work with, listen to, appreciate, and collaborate and lead with diverse populations Â

• Working closely and communicating often and openly with the Head Athletic Trainer (the position’s supervisor)
• Ability to listen to, take direction and guidance from, and be held accountable by the Head Athletic Trainer
• The ability to effectively communicate with and solve problems for diverse groups, including prospective or current students, fellow counselors and support staff, alumni, and other constituencies
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in an environment characterized by large workloads, deadline pressures and high-performance standards. Â
