Description

The Assistant Coach is responsible to assisting the Head Coach in overseeing his or her sport in the best interest of the University, and to adhere to the Philosophy, Mission Statement, and the Athletic Policy of Simpson University. Further, each Assistant Coach should have a working knowledge of their governing organizations (NAIA and the Simpson University Athletic Policy) as it relates to them, personally, or their responsibilities.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in sports management, physical education, athletic coaching, recreation or another related field required; Master's degree preferred
2. Five years successful coaching and recruiting experience at collegiate level, with proven record preferred
3. Ability to serve as a strong Christian role model/mentor for student athletes and actively contribute in the spiritual development of athletes
4. Ability to maintain a strong Christ centered culture for student-athletes within their team activities

9. Understanding of how to develop a competitive sports program with knowledge of NAIA rules and regulations
10. Ability to demonstrate strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal
11. Ability to work well in a team environment
12. Must have and maintain valid California driver's license and be able and willing to travel
13. Must have and maintain certification of First Aid and CPR
14. General proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications (e.g. Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
15. Self-starter, highly motivated and well-organized

10. Encouraged to obtain a Class B license for potential driving availability of 12 passenger vehicles

Essential Functions:

1. Maintain a strong moral/Christian culture within their sport and with their team
2. Communicate effectively the rules of the sport to the players
3. Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas, and techniques in the sport by attending clinics, reading new information, and networking with other coaches in the profession
4. Help administer the athletic study halls or tutoring for student-athletes who need the extra help
5. Give input to award winners, needed budget items, and budget preparation
6. Accept other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics
7. Recruiting and retaining student-athletes in accordance with NAIA and institutional rules, regulations and guidelines.
8. Organizing, preparing and executing effective practice, strength training and meet strategies.
9. Monitoring and nurturing student-athletes’ academic and personal progress.
10. Managing successfully the daily operations of the baseball program: assisting with budget preparation and management, scheduling, travel arrangements, and meet day organization while maintaining compliance with NAIA, and Simpson University rules and regulations.
11. Assisting with fundraising, alumni activities and public relations as needed.
12. Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including maintenance of baseball field and facilities.
13. Fostering a cooperative work environment and providing mutual support with all constituencies and colleagues.
14. Representing the program and Simpson University with sportsmanship, integrity and professionalism.

Typical Working Conditions:

Varies depending on the assignment or task, but will include work indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions (including inclement weather).

Equipment Used:

(List all manual and automated equipment used in the course of performing essential functions.)

Usage of a wide range of still camera and video equipment and supplies, P.C. and Mac computers, a variety of computer software as well as general office equipment. Rapsodo, Blast, Armilla, Qubit and other baseball development programs and communication hardware. Field maintenance equipment, including but not limited to, lawn mowers, string trimmers, rakes, brooms, and shovels.

Salary Range: $16.00-19.00 per hour
