Centre College invites applications for the position of Assistant Baseball Coach (Pitching).

Located in Danville, KY, the historic, picturesque 150-acre campus is 30 miles from Lexington, in the famed Bluegrass Region of Central Kentucky.

Under supervision of the Head Baseball Coach, provide assistance in the leadership of all coaching, recruiting, and administrative duties for a nationally competitive Division III baseball program.  Individual reports to the Head Baseball Coach.  Secondary duty to be assigned and will report to the Deputy AD (or designee) in that area. 

This position is a visible one that carries significant influence and requires strong character and work ethic. 

Essential Job Functions:

• Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people;
• Assist in organizing, preparing and conducting practices, training, and competitions;
• Develop and implement in-season and out-of-season training program for Centre pitching staff, to including throwing, pick-offs, mobility, conditioning, and coordinating with the Sport Performance staff;
• Successfully recruit student-athletes in accordance with all Centre College, Southern Athletic Association, and NCAA rules and regulations;
• While assisting in leading, monitoring, and coordinating training and practice sessions, ensure all appropriate safety guidelines are followed;
• Oversee successful implementation and analysis of the data and technology piece of Centre Baseball using TrackMan stadium and portable systems;
• Game day duties to include assist with bat testing, pre-game routine, pitch calling, and bench coach;
• Assist with the holistic development of baseball student-athletes;
• Represent the program and the College to students, parents, alumni, and the general public;
• Assist in managing the daily operations and administration facets of the baseball program – including but not limited too – recruiting, field maintenance and set-up, and equipment management;
• Actively participate in department-wide fundraisers;
• Secondary duty to be assigned;
• Assist in all duties as assigned by the Head Coach or the Director of Athletics;
• Demonstrate an appreciation for and sensitivity to a diverse academic community, fostering an inclusive environment for students, faculty, and staff from a variety of social, economic, cultural, ideological, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree with previous collegiate experience required; previous collegiate coaching experience preferred, with experience as a pitching coach (or pitcher). 
• CPR, AED, and First-Aid certifications will be required prior to September 1, 2025; valid driver’s license required prior to employment – and maintained throughout.            

Knowledge and Skills

• Demonstrated knowledge of the sport of baseball and its playing rules; ability to foster a team environment; demonstrated coaching skills in sport of baseball;
• A commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy of athletics; a commitment, and ability, to work effectively with diverse populations; high integrity and ethical standards are required, along with enthusiasm for the mission of Centre College and Centre Athletics;
• Knowledge of NCAA and SAA rules and regulations, and a demonstrated ability to recruit, retain, and mentor student-athletes are essential. 
• Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel. 
• Ability to foster a team environment as well as the ability and desire to work successfully within a team-oriented athletic department is essential. Fully embrace and practice the department’s priorities of Recruit, Educate, Train, Compete, and Inspire.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to throw batting practice and work with a position group as determined by the Head Coach.
• Moderate physical activity.  Must be able to lift 100 pounds.
• Standing and or walking for more than four hours per day. Ability to drive a car.  Visual acuity to view a screen. Work, as appropriate, nights and weekends.
