Under the general direction of the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, assist in all aspects of an NCAA Division III women’s Track and Field program including student-athlete recruitment, recruiting coordination, scheduling, team travel, scouting opponents, practice planning, equipment, marketing, and administration of the Track and Field program in full compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.

Under the general direction of the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, assist in all aspects of an NCAA Division III women’s Track and Field program including student-athlete recruitment, recruiting coordination, scheduling, team travel, scouting opponents, practice planning, equipment, marketing, and administration of the Track and Field program in full compliance with NCAA, conference, and university rules and regulations.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Organizes and conducts practice sessions within NCAA regulations for throws student-athletes

Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes

Develop a work schedule (office hours) that makes him/her able to maintain a consistent operation of the sport program and adheres to "coaching hours" guidelines

Recruits student athletes within the guidelines of the NCAA, the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS), and Piedmont University

Recommends athletes for recognition, including NCAA, and CCS awards and end of season banquet

Consistently monitors information regarding individual student athlete eligibility

Abides by all NCAA and CCS rules

Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment. Distributes, collects and maintains equipment on annual basis

Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director, Intercollegiate Athletics

Collaborates with the Director, Athletic Communications regarding team pictures, publicity, media guides and reporting statistics

Assist the Director with planning and scheduling team travel

Assist with program operations as designated by the Director

Help coordinate fundraising efforts

Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops to enhance professional development

Other relevant duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is required.

On-site work is required.

Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required. Three years of collegiate coaching or collegiate playing experience in the sport of cross country and track & field. Experience with student-athlete recruiting, skill instruction, and development.

Licenses and Certification

Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to conduct oneself with the highest level of integrity.

Ability to develop and relate to student-athletes in an private liberal arts academic environment.

Strong service-oriented skills and the ability to have an exceptional customer service attitude.

Demonstrated ability to work accurately and effectively with computerized data systems.

Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills, both written and oral which transcend diverse audiences.

Knowledge of NCAA Division III Rules and Regulations

Knowledge of the rules of cross country and track & field. This includes, but is not limited to, teaching techniques and coaching strategies necessary for both individual improvement and overall team success
Good interpersonal skills are also needed for interacting with university departments, students and prospective student-athletes; requires excellent speaking and writing skills.

Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of diverse backgrounds.

Ability to identify student-athletes who will succeed both academically and athletically.

Able to drive and transport student-athletes to and from practice or competitions as required.

Supplemental Information

Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors
Incumbents are subject working in both internal and external working conditions where they will be subject to exposure to extreme heat or temperatures above 100 degrees.

Incumbents will perform a medium level of work where they may exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs of force frequently, and up to 10lbs of force constantly. Incumbents must have close visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.

The essential functions and responsibilities of this position require incumbents to: climb or ascend or descend stairs, ramps, or hills; balance or maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching; stoop or bend downward and forward by bending at the spine or waist; kneel or bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees; crouch or bend body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; crawl or move about on hands and knees or hands and feet; reach or extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; stand or remain upright on the feet; walk or move about on foot to accomplish tasks; push and pull or use upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward; lift or raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position; finger; grasp; feel; talk to express or exchange ideas; hear to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels; and make repetitive motions.
