The Assistant Coach for men’s and women’s cycling is a member of the Piedmont University Athletic Department reports to the Head Cycling Coach. This position encompasses assisting with all aspects of the cycling team (coaching, racing, training, recruiting, driving vehicles with trailers, maintenance/organization of bikes, facility and vehicles, fundraising, etc.) and with all the cycling disciplines (road, track, mountain biking, gravel and cyclocross). It involves a certain degree of flexibility and travel. Most events are on weekends and can require overnight stays.
Recruit. Identify, communicate and engage with future recruits.
Create promotional material and strategies to help/expand recruiting pool.
Attend high school competitions.
Coaching athletes including leading group rides, teaching skills, teaching tactics and helping with training activities/ programs.
Media responsibilities including creating race reports promotional material for the team. Engaging and interacting with the team’s social media platforms.

Event Support including Driving team vehicles with and without trailer to and from events.
Prepping/cleaning, loading/unloading equipment and /or gear to and from cycling center and to and from events.
Facility and Vehicle Management responsibilities include organizing and maintaining the cycling center and team vehicles.
Community Outreach includes engaging with the community. Identifying local events the team could volunteer and support and Identifying sponsorship and fundraising opportunities.
Other relevant duties as assigned.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
On-site work is required.
Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred qualifications include:
Three years of experience with road, mountain and/or gravel racing
Three years of experience with a NICA and/or Collegiate Cycling Club and/or Varsity Team
Experience and competence with driving while pulling a trailer
Licenses and Certification
USA Cycling License
USA Cycling and/or NICA Coaching Certification or being a current/former Category 2 or higher cyclist in Road, Track, MTB and/or CX
SafeSport Certificate
USA Cycling Background Check
Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR.

Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors
Incumbents are subject working in both internal and external working conditions where they will be subject to exposure to extreme heat or temperatures above 100 degrees.
Incumbents will perform a medium level of work where they may exert up to 50lbs of force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs of force frequently, and up to 10lbs of force constantly. Incumbents must have close visual acuity to operate motor vehicles.
The essential functions and responsibilities of this position require incumbents to: climb or ascend or descend stairs, ramps, or hills; balance or maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching; stoop or bend downward and forward by bending at the spine or waist; kneel or bending legs at knee to come to rest on knee or knees; crouch or bend body downward and forward by bending leg and spine; crawl or move about on hands and knees or hands and feet; reach or extend hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction; stand or remain upright on the feet; walk or move about on foot to accomplish tasks; push and pull or use upper extremities to press against something with steady force to thrust forward, downward, or outward; lift or raise objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position; finger; grasp; feel; talk to express or exchange ideas; hear to perceive the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels; and make repetitive motions.
