Job Summary:
The Assistant Coach for Men’s Basketball is responsible for assisting with all phases of our Division II basketball program while upholding the values and mission of Regis University. Responsibilities of the position include recruiting, scouting opponents, film analysis, assisting with game and practice preparation, player development, on court coaching, student-athlete academic success, and other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s Basketball Coach. The assistant coach will assume the responsibilities of the head coach if the head coach is unable to fulfill these duties.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in coaching and scheduling games, practices and conditioning: Responsible for assisting in planning content and organization of the overall program. (All offenses, defenses, fundamentals and techniques, game strategies, and knowledge of all aspects of the sport.) The assistant coach will also assume the responsibilities of the head coach if the head coach is unable to fulfill these duties.
Recruit qualified student-athletes: Actively recruit academically and athletically talented student-athletes in accordance with the philosophy of Regis University and in strict adherence to University, NCAA and Conference regulations.
Assist the head coach in monitoring and balancing the team budgets: Provide input and work cooperatively with the head coach in budgeting for and requisitioning all goods and services needed and used in the sport program. This includes but is not limited to supplies, equipment, apparel, team travel, recruiting, etc. Each sport must operate within the University allotted budget for operating expenses and scholarships. Any expenses in excess of the team budget allotment must be covered by revenue generated funds.
Supervise graduate assistants and student employees: Assist the head coach in supervising staff as assigned and managing work study employees; work cooperatively with all members of the staff.
Monitor student-athlete’s academic performance: monitor the academic success of the student-athletes in her/his program. Each coach should work cooperatively with Regis University.
Professional development: engage in professional development. Assist the head coach in keeping with the current trends and developments as well as the implementation to perform duties more effectively.
The head coach must attend pertinent professional opportunities including, but not limited to, RMAC and NCAA meetings; the assistant coach may be included, as needed.

Fundraise for the Program and Athletic Department: fully participate in both program and department fundraising activities, fundraising events, university campaigns and special project campaigns.
Promote the brand of the Athletic Department and Regis University: continually strive to enhance the image of the Regis University Athletics Department and its programs through inter-personal contacts with parents, visitors, university faculty/staff, and community citizens. Additionally, each assistant coach should participate in Athletic Department and University sponsored events and initiatives.
Must be able to effectively interact with the head coach, student athletes, trainers, office staff, facilities staff, prospective athletes, parents, faculty, fans etc. daily.
Camps and clinics: coordinate basketball camps and clinics at the direction of the head coach; coordinate with residence life office and event services for campus camps and clinics when applicable.
Create an atmosphere of compliance: Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the NCAA, the RMAC and the Regis Athletic Department. Supervise and ensure that work-study and other employees/volunteers for whom you are administratively responsible comply with the aforesaid policies, rules and regulations. Immediately advise the Regis compliance director if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
Complete vehicle driver program for certification to operate Regis University vehicles.
Work requires weekend and evening hours. Some local, regional, and/or national travel is required.
Hours worked may vary weekly to accommodate practice, game, and travel schedules. Flexibility in availability is essential to meet the demands of this role.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience.
The ability to travel easily between athletic facilities.
The ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an accredited university
NCAA experience
Experience with recruiting software
