Description
The Assistant Coach is responsible for supporting the Head Coach in all aspects of planning, developing, and coaching the men’s ice hockey program in compliance with University of New England and NCAA Division III rules and regulations. This includes assisting with the recruitment and development of student-athletes and fostering a culture of welcoming and belonging that supports a first-rate NCAA Division III student-athlete experience.
This position plays a vital role in advancing the University of New England’s athletic programs through coaching, recruitment, and program operations. The successful candidate will help create an environment where student-athletes feel valued and supported, demonstrate creativity and initiative, and actively engage as a member of the broader university community.

Responsibilities
- Assist with the operations of the sport program as directed by the Head Coach, including teaching and coaching.
- Effectively recruit prospective student-athletes to attend the University of New England.
- Assist with planning and implementing instructional practices that maximize student-athletes’ talent and potential while instilling values such as sportsmanship, leadership, and personal wellness.
- Serve as a collaborative member of the department, working toward common objectives and promoting a positive image of the University.
- Demonstrate high integrity and ethical behavior, and remain knowledgeable of and compliant with all University policies, NCAA Division III policies, and conference requirements.
- Show creativity, initiative, and a willingness to engage within the department, professional organizations, and across other campus departments (e.g., alumni, intercultural affairs, student affairs, institutional advancement).
- Assist the Head Coach with equipment and uniform inventory, meal arrangements, travel planning, coordination of facility use, and other administrative functions.
- As a secondary administrative duty, provide contest management support outside of the primary playing season, along with other responsibilities as assigned by the Head Coach and Director of Athletics.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required previous collegiate coaching experience preferred or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
- Must be willing to work nights and weekends and travel extensively
- Previous experience in related field
- Valid driver’s license.
