The Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach is responsible for supporting all aspects of the men’s soccer program at McMurry University. This includes assisting with coaching, recruitment, player development, scouting, academic support, and administrative tasks while upholding the mission and values of the institution and maintaining full compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
Recruiting prospective student-athletes is an essential element of the Assistant’s responsibility. Development and coordination of a recruiting network is an ongoing activity requiring travel throughout the United States during the entire year. The Assistant Coach will use discretion and personal judgment in the assessment of talent and recommendation for spot on team. Once the student-athlete has matriculated, the Assistant Coach will assist in the weekly monitoring of the student-athletes’ academic progress. The Assistant Coach will communicate with the department’s Academic Support Services personnel and assist in student-athletes’ academic action plans.
This individual is responsible for following the policies and procedures of the University, American Southwest Conference and NCAA Division III in day-to-day operation of the program.
Organizational Relationships: The Assistant Coach reports directly to the Head Coach who is responsible to the Athletic Director. Internal relationships will exist with Academic Support Services, facilities and game operations, marketing, business office, strategic communications, strength and conditioning, athletic training and compliance. External relationships will exist with prospective student-athletes and their parents, alumni, and other professionally related organizations.
The position will also have secondary responsibilities in athletics corporate sponsorships, donor relations, and other athletics administrative duties, as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree is required along with 1-3 years college coaching experience. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations is a prerequisite for this position. The position requires someone with initiative and an energy level that will enable the individual to work long hours. The position does include evening and weekend assignments. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with university administrators, parents, and students.
Additional Required Certifications, licenses, and Certificates: USSF license or United Soccer Coach’s license
Bachelor’s degree
Master’s degree and prior collegiate participation and/or coaching experience are preferred.
Experience using compliance-specific software for logging recruiting calls and unofficial visits are preferred.
Able to work evenings and weekends.
