Assistant Coach, Softball (Pitching)

Summary: The Assistant Softball Coach (Pitching) is responsible for the development, performance, and management of the pitching staff for the Queens University of Charlotte softball program. This position supports all aspects of a competitive NCAA Division I program, including student-athlete development, recruiting, scouting, and daily program operations. This is a full-time, 12-month benefits eligible position that reports to the Head Coach of Softball. 

This position is considered a Responsible Employee for purposes of the university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. As such, this position is required to report any incident of sexual misconduct or interpersonal violence to the university’s Title IX Coordinator when made aware of such. 

Queens conducts confidential background investigations on candidates as part of the hiring process, including any past NCAA rules violations. According to the NCAA bylaws: 

“Contractual agreements or appointments between a coach and an institution shall include the stipulation that a coach who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.” 

This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: 

• Pitching Development & Game Preparation
• Plan and implement comprehensive pitching development programs, including mechanics, velocity, spin efficiency, pitch design, and mental approach
• Design and lead bullpen sessions, live at-bats, and recovery protocols
• Develop game plans for opposing hitters and collaborate on in-game strategy and pitch calling 
• Monitor workload, arm care, and injury prevention strategies Recruiting

• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes, with a focus on pitchers
• Build and maintain relationships with travel ball coaches, high school programs, and recruits
• Assist with official/unofficial visits and recruiting communications Player Development 
• Mentor student-athletes on and off the field, supporting academic success, leadership, and personal growth
• Assist with team culture, accountability standards, and performance expectations Team Operations
• Support practice planning and execution
• Assist with scouting reports, video analysis, and opponent breakdowns
• Contribute to travel planning, equipment coordination, and camp operations 
• Participate in community engagement and program fundraising initiatives Administrative Duties
• Maintain compliance with NCAA, conference, and university policies
• Complete required documentation, reports, and communication tasks.

Non-Essential Duties

• Other duties may be assigned as needed to achieve department and university goals.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required 

• Collegiate playing and/or coaching experience, preferably as a pitcher or pitching coach 
• Strong knowledge of pitching mechanics, analytics, and modern development tools 
• Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills 
• Ability to recruit and evaluate talent at the Division I level 
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and positive team environment 

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with video/analytics platforms (e.g., TrackMan, Rapsodo, Synergy)
• Demonstrated success
• developing pitchers at the collegiate or high-level travel/club level
• Strong understanding of NCAA rules and compliance
• Requires evening, weekend, and holiday work, including team travel
• Ability to work in outdoor conditions for extended period
• Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license, or ability to attain same by hire date.
• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in experience and education.
