POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Dance Team Coach is a part-time position within the Athletics Department. This position will primarily assist with the Alma College Game Day Dance Team while also supporting the Competitive Dance Team throughout the year. Responsibilities include coaching, student-athlete development, alumni engagement, game day operations, and assisting with team events with the potential of occasional travel. The Alma College Game Day Team performs at home events hosted by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA); the Competitive Dance Team competes at Universal Dance Association (UDA), and all dancers participate in a variety of athletic and campus events throughout the academic year.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

Reports to the Head Dance Team Coach and has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist with coaching and supervising the Game Day Dance Team

• Occasional assistance with the Competitive Dance Team

• Attend and assist Game Day practices, rehearsals, games, and performances

• Support the development of student-athletes both on and off the dance floor

• Assist with Alumni engagement and event planning

• Assist with game day operations and fan engagement activities at athletic events

• Assist with occasional team clinics, fundraising activities, and community engagement events

• Assist with inventory management of team apparel, equipment, and supplies

• Cooperate with athletic training, strength and conditioning, facilities, transportation, and other campus partners to support team operations

• Commit to and uphold all rules and regulations established by Alma College, the MIAA, NCAA Division III, and Universal Dance Association (UDA)

• Represent Alma College and the Dance Team positively when interacting with students, parents, alumni, coaches, and the community

• Support the mission and values of Alma College and the Athletics Departmen

• Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head Dance Team Coach

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Collegiate dance team experience as a student-athlete and/or coach

• Strong knowledge of dance team training, performance, and game day expectations

• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required

• Excellent communication and organizational skills

• Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations

• Valid driver’s license and good driving record

• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Collegiate dance coaching experience

• Event experience and knowledge of game day operations

  • Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
