Summary:   The Assistant Director for Athletic Communications aids the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications with all aspects of communication for a robust NCAA DI level athletic communications department. A leading NCAA Division I competitor and member of the ASUN Conference, Queens University of Charlotte’s athletic program spans 35 years. With a diverse roster representing nearly 50 countries, Queens athletes have excelled at the highest level, capturing 28 team national championships, 144 individual national titles, and 105 conference tournament championships. Committed to fostering academic and athletic excellence, the Royals have consistently achieved success both on the field and in the classroom. During their last five years of Division II, the program ranked in the top 10 of the Learfield Directors' Cup. The university's commitment to producing future professional athletes and Olympians is further solidified by its "Olympians and Paralympians Made Here" designation. The position includes being a primary contact for several assigned sports. This is a full-time benefits eligible position that reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications.

This position is considered a Responsible Employee for purposes of the university’s Sexual Misconduct Policy. As such, this position is required to report any incident of sexual misconduct or interpersonal violence to the university’s Title IX Coordinator when made aware of such.

Queens conducts confidential background investigations on candidates as part of the hiring process, including any past NCAA rules violations. According to the NCAA bylaws:

 “Contractual agreements or appointments between a coach and an institution shall include the stipulation that a coach who is found in violation of NCAA regulations shall be subject to disciplinary or corrective action as set forth in the provisions of the NCAA enforcement procedures, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.”

This position is exempt from provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is not eligible to earn overtime pay or compensatory time off for additional hours worked. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include: 

  • Serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports, handling writing and editing press releases, graphic design and social media communications. Oversee game-day operations from the communications arm of the department for assigned sports. 
  • Assist in coordinating daily media relations tasks for sports assigned
  • Develop and produce creative content (graphics and video) for social media accounts pertaining to sports assigned
  • Generate content for the athletics web site (queensathletics.com) that is designed to promote the overall message of the Athletics department.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with members of the media to ensure optimal coverage of student-athletes and athletics department as a whole.
