Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Athletics, Recruiting will be responsible for the development, facilitation and implementation of a comprehensive and consistent student-athlete recruiting strategy across 34 varsity sport programs at Brown University. This position will be highly collaborative to identify and assemble best practices that will aid coaches in their sport-specific recruiting processes. This position will establish and leverage partnerships and codify recruiting communication strategies among coaches, strategic communications, compliance, and University partners, creating a unified, compelling message. This position will be responsible for recruiting messaging and branding strategies, road mapping the recruiting process and utilizing campus resources to assist coaching staffs in attracting prospective student-athletes to Brown University. Additionally, this position will contribute to the enhancement of brand reputation and overall mission of Brown Athletics on a local, regional and national level.

This position will work closely with the Associate Director of Athletics for Recruiting and Retention internally to create and manage all strategic communications plans including division positioning, messaging, and providing consistent branding and messaging standards. This position will be responsible for generating a recruiting life cycle timeline to support the efforts of coaches in the recruiting process.

The Assistant Director of Athletics, Recruiting will collaborate closely with the Strategic Communications and Multimedia staff, along with Compliance to ensure content and messaging is produced and disseminated in accordance with NCAA and Ivy League legislation. This position also will collaborate withBrown’s Office of Admissions and other campus units to ensure that University resources and bestpractices regarding campus visits, tours, and recruitment materials are utilized in a consistent and effective way.

All Division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA, Ivy League and ECAC rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties.

Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test and maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division).

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience preferably in collegiate athletics, with particular involvement in the recruiting process for prospective student-athletes.

  • Previous experience creating cohesive communication plans as well as graphic and video content development.

  • Extensive experience in public relations and previous experience in a public higher education institution is preferred. Experience with collegiate athletics is highly desired.
