Scope of Job

To assist with facilitating phases of the

UTRGV

Cheer, Dance and Mascot program by demonstrating techniques, recruiting, organizing practices and games, scheduling, compliance with university policies and procedures, and safety standards.

Description of Duties

• Assists with analyzing performance and instructs student athletes in strategies and techniques to

prepare them for performances at all campus, athletic sports, and community events.

• Guides and supervises the drill team while representing

UTRGV

at athletic events and other campus and community-related activities.

• Plans organizes, and implements practices, choreography, training, and physical strength and conditioning for the development and improvement of individual and team skills.

• Advises individual team members on skills as well as team.

• Plans, coordinates, facilitates and collaborates with campus partners on game day activities including, but not limited to, pep rallies and pre-game performances.

• Maintains a calendar of practices and performances including but not limited to the team’s presence and support at Athletic games, and various campus and community events as needed, and supports all applicable postseason tournaments.

• Maintains knowledge and compliance with upholding rules and regulations related to risk management, safety, and requisite certifications.

• Coordinates with athletic trainers to ensure that injuries are properly addressed and rehabilitated. Maintains records and rosters including physicals and emergency contact information for all team members.

• Develops and maintains collaborative working relationships with internal/external departments/agencies and other organizations associated with and/or receiving benefits from the program. Examples include team members, recruits, high school coaches, the Athletics department, band, and other groups for game-day activities.

Required Education

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in dance or equivalent.

Licenses/Certifications

As condition of employment this position requires the applicant to be authorized to operate a University-Owned Vehicle for Official University Business. Per University of Texas System Policy 157, applicants will be subject to a motor vehicle record check for their most recent thirty-six (36) month history. Out of State Drivers are required to submit a 36-month history

MVR

from their prior State of residence(s).

Required Experience

Knowledgeable in advanced dance technique.

Possess choreography experience in field routines, stand lines, and/or competition settings.

Previous experience as a dance/drill team director or coach at the high school, all-star/studio, or collegiate level.

Preferred Experience

Experience on a collegiate dance/drill team, formal dance studio training and knowledge of rules and regulations related to game day performances, including halftime shows preferred.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Part-time schedule availability and flexibility to accommodate practice times, game days, parades, and other appearance requests on campus and in the community. Particular project or program may require ability to drive a car for local or distant travel for consultation, training, meetings, or on site demonstrations. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required including but not limited to varied weekends for games, tournaments, and competitions. Must be flexible with availability.

UTRGV

is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

This is a part-time temporary assignment, non-benefits eligible.
