Job Description:

Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Equipment Manager position. The Assistant Equipment Manager is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $21.35/hour - commensurate with experience. The Assistant Equipment Manager supports the efforts of the Equipment Manager in providing the Department of Athletics and the campus community as a whole with excellent service. This position will assist the Manager with the operations of the equipment room for all 27 NCAA Division III varsity sports programs, as well as the needs of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who use the room. The Assistant takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Inventory/Equipment/Laundry

  • Maintain inventory of all equipment and uniforms for varsity sports teams as well as equipment used by students, faculty, and staff (squash/tennis rackets, basketballs, soccer balls, etc.).
  • Clean, replace, and repair uniforms and equipment necessary to maintain the highest quality, safety, and longevity.
  • Assist the Manager in managing all laundry for assigned teams and department needs. - Meet current safety standards for laundry equipment (environmental, chemical, and infectious diseases); - Maintain washers and dryers for efficient short and long-term use; - Ensure proper ordering, procedures, and handling of chemicals approved by Amherst College Environmental Safety Department.
  • Issue and manage athletic lockers in men’s general, women’s general, coaches, faculty, officials, and team locker rooms. Maintain spreadsheets to organize individuals in over 800 lockers in order to track names, contact information, and combination locks.
  • Consult with coaches in order to properly fit, issue, set up locker rooms, and create standards of operation prior to each season.
