$3000 for Men's Assistant Golf Coach and $3000 for Women's Assistant Golf Coach
Position Summary
The primary purpose of the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Golf Coach is to play an integral role in the effective operation of the men’s and women’s golf programs, develop young men and women in the North Central College golf philosophy, to direct aspects of the overall golf program strategy including the recruitment, development, and retention of student-athletes.
Description of Key Responsibilities
Assist the head coach develop, recruit, and administer highly competitive men’s and women’s golf programs, consistent with the student-athlete philosophy of Division III, which generates College and community enthusiasm and support. Assist with administrative and coaching activities within the program.
Help develop practice preparations, in conjunction with the entire coaching staff, by analyzing film if applicable, designing strategies, communicating with the student-athletes in the specialty area and writing reports.
Develop and implement an on-going professional development plan as it relates to golf in general, wellness, nutrition, and overall strength and conditioning.
Coach a particular group(s) as assigned by the head coach, organize standard practices, and develop individual athletes.
Assist the head coach with travel logistics.
Participate in any promotional activities for the men’s and women’s golf programs as determined by the head golf coach.
Support the College’s mission, vision and values, and contribute to the advancement of the College’s Strategic Plan.
Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous quality improvement.
Demonstrate civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College. Promote a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work and living environment and engage in educational opportunities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Perform routine office functions such as typing, filing, and copying.
Participate in logistical activities such as delivering materials to and picking up materials from the campus print shop and mailroom, storage areas, vendor facilities and other locations.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Specific knowledge of golf coaching theory and techniques.
Skill in communicating with college student-athletes, their parents and other coaching professionals. Ability to effectively recruit qualified student-athletes. Ability to effectively counsel and advise prospective students and their parents regarding numerous aspects of the College. Ability to exercise the proper balance of persistence and patience as individually appropriate to each contact.
Strong commitment to a small college environment. Extensive knowledge of the organization and operation of the College, both administratively and academically, especially regarding admission-related activities. Up-to-date knowledge of developments in higher education in general and at schools with which North Central College traditionally competes for new students.
Ability to develop successful programs which engage student-athletes and coaches in developing student-athlete leaders.
Ability to deal with several tasks and work with a large number of individuals concurrently, often without direct supervision. This requires a person who is well organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to effectively prioritize tasks.
Ability to communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, including direction of and participation in the development of high quality publications which reflect positively on North Central College.
Ability to consistently demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with persons both internal and external to the College, both on the telephone and in person.
Ability to work as an effective member of a team. Commitment to an environment that nurtures cooperation, teamwork, and diversity.
Ability to serve as a role model and professional coach for prospective recruits, current students, staff, parents, and fans.
Distinguishing Characteristics
The assistant golf coach must be able to effectively coach, recruit, travel, operate within fiscal boundaries, develop/maintain relationships with student-athletes, parents, and campus faculty/staff. The assistant golf coach must also be able to creatively and effectively develop strategies and programming that will allow student athletes to reach their full potential in golf and as students.
Education/Training
High School diploma required. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
Experience
Administrative, playing, and/or coaching experience in the sport.
Licenses or Certifications
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
