POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant wrestling Coach provides assistance to the Head wrestling Coach regarding recruitment, coaching, and retention of athletes.. Demonstrating a willingness and capability to abide by Athletic Department, Eureka College, SLIAC and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III rules as applicable in wrestling, the Assistant wrestling Coach provides daily assistance to the Head Coach as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assist with the teaching the sport of wrestling to the student-athletes at Eureka College.

• Assist with the evaluation, recruitment, and retention of wrestling athletes among both mens and womens wrestling.

• Assist with meeting recruitment and retention goals set by the college.

• Assist the Head Coach with recruitment reports.

• Assist with the daily planning, organization, and supervision of practices and Competitions.

• Assist in trackwrestling registrations

• Assist in overnight trip planning and oversight

• Contribute to the overall program of a residential college.

• Game and Event Management when outside of the wrestling season as scheduled.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with the supervision, care for, and inventory equipment and facility.

• Help with gear ordering and designing

• Oversee and maintain accurate statistics as needed for team sport working in conjunction with the Sports Information Director.

• Maintain effective working relationships within the athletic department team and the College as a whole in order to contribute to the overall success of all sport programs.

• Positively lead and contribute as a member of the Athletic Department both internally, around the college, and to external groups.

• Assist with the oversight of academic progress of student-athletes on the team.

• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS: Manage and coordinate meetings as assigned. The individual could supervise other assistant coaches and student-assistants.

EDUCATION: Essential: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four year college or university; or High School diploma/GED with related professional playing experience. Desirable: Master’s Degree.

EXPERIENCE: Essential: Coaching experience in both Folkstyle and Freestyle wrestling. 5 years of coaching experience Desirable: College wrestling and college coaching experience

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: Valid driver’s license. CPR, AED, and First Aid certification. USAW bronze certification.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of wrestling, rules and regulations, including NCAA and SLIAC (as applicable to wrestling).

• Knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of coaching.

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

• Ability to deliver knowledge to and instruct student-athletes in an effective manner.

• Knowledge of safety and first aid techniques.

• Skill in identifying problems, evaluating alternatives and implementing effective solutions.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with a diverse population.

• Ability to positively contribute to a team environment.

• Knowledge of basic computer applications and electronic mail.

WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Work is routinely performed indoors, in office environments and in gyms, and other recreational environments. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. Off campus travel is required.

WORK SCHEDULE: Varies, typical office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM. Schedules vary depending on contests and practice schedules as well as recruitment.

TARGET SALARY RANGE: $36,000 to $43,000 annually
