Buena Vista University is seeking candidates for Assistant Softball Coach to assist the Head Coach with all duties of successfully operating our softball program, including but not limited to recruiting student-athletes, assisting with practice sessions/game preparation/game-day coaching, monitoring the student-athletes academically, and managing game-day operations. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Assist in advising student-athletes and staff of applicable NCAA, A-R-C, and softball-specific rules, regulations, and University policies, and ensure compliance with such regulations.
• Assist in developing pre-season, in-season and off-season training for the team with the Head Coach and Athletic Performance Coach and direct athletics skill development for student-athletes.
• Possess abilities to physically contribute to the necessary aspects of softball to promote student-athlete development: throw soft toss, throw overhand, receive throws, catch pitchers, etc.

• Recruit student-athletes compatible with Buena Vista University’s mission and the specific goals of the softball program.
• Exhibit proper communication styles relative to young female student-athletes and consistently support them through their various needs.
• Monitor student-athlete academic performance, implement team measures to support success, and communicate regularly regarding academics and other matters pertaining to their educational progress.
• Maintain high organizational skills to track inventory needs within the program.
• Possess ability to physically lift and transport equipment to and from facilities along with physical work to maintain softball field and additional facility needs.
• Cooperate with the University Athletic Trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.
• Coordinate travel accommodations and logistics in preparation for scheduled competition trips.
• Attend all team practices and home and away contests.
• Assume responsibility to student-athlete compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Assist the Head Coach and the Athletics Director in resolving cases where a student-athlete violates an applicable regulation.
• Work with alumni groups, University administration, and community groups to seek support for the team.
• Attend appropriate Athletics departmental staff meetings.
• Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Director of Athletics.

Qualifications:

• Successful collegiate coaching experience.
• Ability to recruit qualified female student-athletes.
• Bachelor’s degree required.
