GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The Assistant Softball Coach assists the Head Softball Coach in all aspects of the program, including organization, development, and leadership of a highly competitive NCAA Division II softball team. This role aligns with and promotes the mission and core values of Johnson C. Smith University.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Assist the Head Coach in instructing players on the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
• Organize and lead individual and small group practices and drills as directed.
• Maintain current knowledge of and comply with all NCAA, CIAA conference, and university rules and regulations.
• Assist in the recruitment of qualified student-athletes.
• Demonstrate effective teaching and coaching methods, along with strong leadership skills.
• Support game and practice preparation and planning.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Involvement in all physical practices and workouts alongside players is required. - Performs related duties as required. - Extensive travel is required - Night, weekend, and after-hours work are required

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in sports, or a related field. Must demonstrate, intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, and word. Minimum of three years of coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is essential. Demonstrated ability to instruct student-athletes effectively in both individuals and team settings. Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, particularly regarding the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Deep understanding of individual and team softball skills with the ability to teach and develop these skills. Must demonstrate effective coaching techniques and communication skills.
