Position Description & Qualifications
Reports To: Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach
Department: Athletics
Position Type: Full-Time (Exempt) Limited-Term (12-months)
Primary Objective
Lawrence University openly invites applications for the Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach. The assistant coach will be responsible for assisting the head coach in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the men’s and women’s swim and dive programs.
Lawrence University is a member of the NCAA Division III, Midwest Conference. Northern Collegiate Hockey Association, and Midwest Fencing Conference. Lawrence currently fields teams in 24 intercollegiate sports with approximately 425 scholar-athletes and is committed to a well-balanced program promoting excellence in both.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in recruiting and retaining student-athletes who fit the mission of the University and creating a positive culture for the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams.
- Assist in managing a database of prospects and maintaining records of contacts, and identifying appropriate competitions and events to attend for recruiting student-athletes
- Exhibit supportive and cooperative behavior pursuing program goals as set by head coach.
- Expected to be familiar with and abide by the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Midwest Conference, and Lawrence University.
- Assist the head coach with organizing and conducting practice sessions.
- Assist the head coach with meet execution, management, and operations, including but not limited to using Hy-Tek and DiveMeets for team and meet management.
- Responsible for monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes, assisting in the development of each student-athlete’s graduation plan, and ensuring academic accountability by continually monitoring progress reports during the entire academic year.
- Expected to work with Compliance Director on all eligibility and compliance regulations.
- Responsible to know current Lawrence University rules and policies.
- Enhances professional growth by attending clinics, workshops, etc.
- Responsible for team travel – making appropriate reservations for vehicles, hotel, and meal service well in advance.
- Assist with game day management of an assigned sport.
- Assist with all phases of Lawrence Swim & Dive camps and facility rental activities.
- Assist with aquatics coordination, including pool and facility management.
- Assist in fundraising efforts and in building quality relationships with team stakeholders, including faculty and staff, parents, alumni, and friends of the program.
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism and maintain confidentiality of information as it relates to the program, students, student-athletes, and other staff.
- Responsible for any other details of their sport or any other additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Working Relationships
Work collaboratively with all members of the Athletics team, staff, faculty and other members of the Lawrence community, including vendors, students, and parents.
Employment Requirements
Lifeguard certification required.
Bachelor’s degree required.
First aid and AED certification needed prior to conducting athletics related activities.
Must have successful completion of criminal and MVR background check, meet University Authorized Driver Policy requirements, and favorable completion of reference checks.
