Job Summary

Responsible for the organization, development, and leadership of a varsity intercollegiate women’s basketball program in support of the mission and core values of the Athletic Department/University. Coach and manage NCAA DII women’s basketball with minimal or no supervision. Duties may include hiring staff; recruiting and retaining top prospective student-athletes; establishing a competitive schedule; coordinating, practice planning, skill development, and designing strategies that prepare the team for competition; mentoring student athletes; overseeing booster clubs and development initiatives; organizing sports camps; and budget management; collaborate with numerous athletic and University units; demonstrate adherence to NCAA rules and regulations.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

• Associate Head Coach SHOULD BE able to perform the following duties independently:
• Recruit Student-athletics independently, managing all aspects of the recruiting process.
• Intricately involved in scholarship evaluation, packaging, equivalences, FAA, and awards, including scholarship offers.
• Assists student-athletes or prospective student-athletes with enrollment, admission, advising, financial aid, housing, and student-athlete wellness.
• Monitor student-athletes’ academic progress.
• Plan and supervise practices and competitions as well as athletic development of student-athletes.
• Plan team and individual travel.
• Plan, manage, and supervise Summer Camps.
• Plan and implement team community service projects.
• Assist in budget development and management.
• Supervise assistant coaches, student workers, managers, and part-time personnel.
• Participate in fundraising activities.

Required Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree
• Five (5) years of successful collegiate coaching experience and/or college playing experience in basketball.
• A combination of education and experience may be accepted.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

• Master’s Degree
• Five years or more NCAA DII or DI collegiate basketball coaching experience

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

• CPR/First Aid/AED certification
• Successful as an NCAA DI or DII Assistant or Head basketball coach
• Collegiate Athlete
• Successful development of training and program operations

Other Information:

• Standard office conditions
• Year-round in an athletic venue
• Seasonal travel, primarily through charter bus or self-driven vans

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
