Athletic Trainer
Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer and the Director of Athletic Operations & Events, the athletic trainer assists in the development and implementation of programs for the prevention of injuries to student athletes, administers first aid and emergency medical care, administers rehabilitation for injuries, and related duties as assigned.

Must be
BOC
certified
Bachelor’s in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education
Valid CA Drivers License with a safe driving record
CPR
/First Aid Certification
Two years athletic training room experience, preferably at the collegiate level
Practical field experience in the area of Health, Physical Education and Exercise Science and Athletic Training
Master’s in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Therapy, Physiology of Exercise, or Adaptive Physical Education
Community college experience
Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
Follows written policies and procedures in collaboration with athletic training staff, athletic administration & team physician regarding emergency management, infectious disease mitigation, treatment and reconditioning of injuries for athletes
Assist with annual review and update of established programs as necessary
Perform day-to-day activities required of the athletic training personnel
Inspect and evaluate locker rooms, showers, playing fields, and other related facilities for potential hazards; monitor athletic equipment for product safety and integrity
Administer first aid and emergency medical care, including lifesaving procedures, to student athletes when necessary. Must be able to make independent decisions, as well as work collaboratively with the sports medicine staff, athletic department administration, team physician, and coach(es) concerning the ability of an injured athlete to participate
Administer and operate rehabilitation equipment and related therapeutic modalities
Provide athletic training services for home and away competitions/events
Coordinate and schedule physical examinations, (including
PPE
) and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
Refer injured students to team physician, college health center, or appropriate medical facility as necessary
Maintain accurate and detailed injury and treatment reports about student athletes
Maintain athletic training facilities in a clean and orderly condition
Maintain an effective working relationship with student athletes, coaches, sports medicine personnel, athletic department administration, health center personnel, and other campus and community members
Coordination with sports medicine department and athletic department administration, be able to secure quotes from multiple vendors for purchasing supplies and equipment for athletic training needs
Facilitate communication between athletes, sports medicine personnel, coaches, parents, administration, and community concerning the health and physical status of athletes
Review athletic insurance coverage and assists student athletes and staff in the correct submission of insurance claims
Effectively communicate to student athletes, coaches, and when necessary parents, about aspects of injuries, reconditioning programs, and nutrition
Participates as an active member of the college student athlete health and welfare team
Facilitates treatment of injuries and provide reconditioning according to authorized medical directions
May supervise student workers
Assist in game management duties
Performs related duties as assigned
Attend athletic practices and events as required; render emergency First Aid treatment; provide preventative and emergency care for visiting teams as necessary.
Coordinate with coaching staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition, strength and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student athlete needs.
Assist in the development of the sports medicine program budget; prepare budget for athletic first aid medical supplies and equipment; assist in ordering of training room supplies and equipment.
Provides athletic training coverage as assigned (Home, Away, Non-Traditional Sports Season)
Monitors environmental conditions such as heat index, air quality, lightning, and extreme weather conditions
Must be certified and educated regarding 3C2A concussion protocol and return to play requirements. Must administer all Concussion procedures and evaluations following 3C2A policies; including education, training, procedure, prevention, and return to play.

Position may require evening and weekend duties, to be determined, which will be performed in training room, gymnasium, classroom, and athletic fields
Position requires some travel with athletic teams to away competitions
Frequent standing, sitting, reaching, walking; occasional lifting (overhead, waist level from floor), carrying, bending; frequent near vision use for reading; constant use of voice (somewhat above normal conversation level); frequent hearing use (ordinary conversation level); evaluative and cognitive thinking and decision making
