JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an Athletic Trainer to provide direct and indirect care to patients at our Duke Sports Sciences Institute clinic located in Durham, NC.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform appropriate patient intake for a variety of medical and musculoskeletal conditions. This includes, but is not limited to, thorough history of condition or injury, chief complaint, assessment of pain level, completion and / or review of past medical history, family history social history and medication reconciliation.
• Perform appropriate physical examination per patient history and chief complaint. This includes but is not limited to palpation of the affected area and unaffected area, range of motion testing, strength testing / manual muscle testing / dynamic muscle testing, myotome/dermatome testing, ligamentous stress testing, or functional testing.
• At direction of supervising physician, perform appropriate point of care testing and order appropriate diagnostic testing or follow-up care.
• Document all aspects of evaluation, testing appropriately within the Electronic Health Record.
• Collaborate with supervising physician to develop an appropriate plan of care for treatment/interventions.
• Use current best practices for concussion evaluation and management.
• Prepare for and assists physician with minor surgical procedures, including preparation of patient treatment site.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelors degree in athletic training or equivalent from a CAATE accredited program required. Work requires knowledge of the domains of athletic training: injury/illness prevention and wellness protection, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, immediate and emergency care, treatment and rehabilitation, and organizational and professional health and well-being. NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers Association-Board of Certification) is required.

• NCBATE licensed or eligible NATABOC certification

JOB HOURS

The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
