The role of the Athletics Building Manager - Plumber is to perform daily duties assigned by the director that are both scheduled and unscheduled. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to plumbing, HVAC, electrical, welding, carpentry, general maintenance, assistance with game day operations and event setup as required.

Additionally, a Building Manager must demonstrate personal accountability, including (1) compliance with the compliance staff directives and (2) adherence to Athletics Department and University policies as well as NCAA and Big 12 Conference rules and regulations.  

Essential Functions:

• Plumbing: Troubleshoot plumbing systems, repair leaking and damaged pipes, repair faucets and toilets, repair or replace pumps, replace filters, diagnose, and estimate replacement costs, maintain stock, etc.

  • Installs and services plumbing fixtures and water and drain piping according to established codes and practices.
  • Reads and works from blueprints, drawings and control wiring diagrams
  • Assures proper backfilling of any excavations that might be necessary in order to make system repairs
  • Installs and services steam heated equipment such as the related piping, heat exchangers, steam pressure cookers, kettles, sterilizers, heating coils and dishwashers

• General Maintenance: Responsible for performing a wide range of duties as assigned by supervisor. Painting, welding, carpentry, drywall repairs, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, door repairs, flooring repairs, ceiling repairs, lighting repairs, etc.

  • Installs and services gas fired appliances and related piping, such as steam and hot water boilers, forced air furnaces, water heaters, stack ovens, kitchen ranges, and fryolaters
  • Makes periodic inspections of the various irrigation system components to insure each is properly functional

• Events: Assist with event set-up and breakdown

• Collaboration: Collaborates with others for the purpose of implementing and maintaining facility services

• Material Procurement: Capable of gathering quotes and order fulfillment. Assists supervisor in establishing proper materials inventory

  • Maintains an inventory of parts and supplies
  • Contacts outside vendors to locate needed material and prepares the appropriate order forms and sends to designated person

• Planning: Develops long and short-range maintenance plans/programs for the purpose of ensuring that university resources are effectively used

Job Requirements

Required Education: High School diploma or GED or Trade School Certificate AND:

• 18 months plumbing experience.

Skills:

• High level problem solver
• Knowledge of plumbing and building codes
• Knowledge of tools used to repair plumbing systems
• Uses tools or equipment in a manner requiring some training or instruction
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work with a diverse group of coaches, administration, and student-athletes
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and report for long days on game days
• Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
• Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
• Able to read and understand written material and instructions
• Basic math

Certifications:

• Valid Oklahoma Driver's License to drive university vehicles or ability to obtain within 30 days from hire date
• Must hold a current plumber journeyman's license with the State of Oklahoma or the ability to obtain one upon employment

Advertised Physical Requirements:

• Exposure to physically demanding tasks; regular exposure to noise and odors
• Lifting 45 lbs or more on occasion
• Bending and stooping
• Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, communicate and drive
• Must be able to work from a boom lift at 85 feet
• Using wrists, hands, and fingers for repeated and intricate motions 
• Exposure to extreme temperature changes and handling dirty materials
• May be designated as an essential position during emergency closures
• May be required to remain on campus overnight during weather or other emergencies

Departmental Preferences:

• Ability and willingness to adhere to department, university, Big 12, and NCAA rules and regulations
• 24 months experience as a general maintenance craftsperson/plumber

Supervision: No Supervisory Duties
