Duties and Responsibilities:

• Under the direction of the Athletics Director, the Legislative Coordinator will be responsible for Legislative initiatives, Board of Regents liaison, special projects, and strategic planning for the University of Hawaii at Manoa Athletics Department (UHMAD).
• Assist the Athletics Director with Board of Regents and special projects for UHMAD.
• Collaborate with the University of Hawai‘i, help to identify and develop the UHM Athletics Department state legislative agenda and priorities, and formulates strategies that create opportunities for he UHMAD to advance these priorities.
• Monitor, understand, analyze and track legislation and budget initiatives that impact or could impact the UHMAD; keep appropriate internal stakeholders apprised of any related bill activities, movement or amendments.

• Collaborate with the University of Hawai‘i, help to identify and develop the UHM Athletics Department state legislative agenda and priorities, and formulates strategies that create opportunities for he UHMAD to advance these priorities.
• Monitor, understand, analyze and track legislation and budget initiatives that impact or could impact the UHMAD; keep appropriate internal stakeholders apprised of any related bill activities, movement or amendments.
• Prepare briefings, legislative memos, testimony and correspondences for the Athletics Director and others who might have roles within the legislative process.
• Cultivate and maintains effective relations with the private sector and various governmental bodies to promote and advance the support for the UHMAD.
• Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
• Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other University offices, and appropriate relationships with members of the media, donors, and other individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
• Responsible for performing the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
• Know, recognize, and comply with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and of the affiliated Conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if there is reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees or students, have occurred or will occur.
• Other duties as directed by the Athletics Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in business administration, education, physical education, recreation or related field. 
• Three (3) years of administrative experience at the collegiate level, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• Demonstrated strong administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
• Demonstrated successful and responsible participation in fundraising and marketing programs.
• Demonstrated commitment to gender equity and diversity.
• Demonstrated fiscal integrity and expertise.
• Demonstrated knowledge of management principles and practices.
• Demonstrated ability to create a climate of positive environment.
• Knowledge of the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment.
• Knowledge of solicitation principles and practices.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations and University administrative policies and procedures which relate to contract negotiation and bidding process.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to and thorough understanding of full compliance with the NCAA, conference and University rules and regulations.
• Ability to understand and work effectively in Hawai‘i’s multi-cultural society.
• Proven record of successful relations with Executive Level, Legislative, and City and County elected officials.
• Proven record of successful relations within a University community and with alumni and the general public.
• Record of commitment to gender equity and diversity in athletics.
• Sensitivity and perceptiveness necessary to function successfully in a multicultural environment.
