P.K. Yonge Developmental Research School (DRS) is seeking to hire a Head Cheer Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. Responsibilities include:

Train students and teams to represent the Blue Wave with high standards in academics, attendance, behavior, and all things related to being a member of the team

Ensure and promote a positive team and school culture. Role modeling behavior for a K-12 setting

Educate individuals, students, and teams on the rules, strategies, & techniques for a sport or sports, leadership, and teamwork

Plan, organize, and lead practice sessions

Train, encourage, and motivate athletes to prepare them for games and competitive events

Teach safety rules and regulations and ensure they are enforced

Develop physical conditioning programs that equip athletes to meet their potential

Evaluate team members to determine potential; assign positions or roles to athletes based on strengths and weaknesses

Ensure athletes are using equipment properly and safely

Identify the strengths and weaknesses of players and modify coaching strategies accordingly

Remain current on changes in rules, coaching philosophies and techniques, and technology relevant to a particular sport(s)

Organize football and basketball tryouts, summer conditioning, cheer camp and practices

Collaborate with the Athletic Director on the Cheer Buddies Program

Advertised Salary:

Commensurate with 24-25 supplement schedule (Appendix F of UFF Bargaining Agreement)

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or GED

Florida Department of Education- Athletic Coaching (or Teaching) Certificate or intention to acquire certification

FDLE Background check

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent leadership, teamworking, and teaching skills

Demonstrated commitment to effective strategies for motivating and teaching students with differing abilities from a variety of backgrounds

Coaching background and experience
