DESCRIPTION:
The Coach, Women’s Softball leads the College’s softball program. Recruits student-athletes, organizes and conducts practices, schedules and organizes games and tournaments, and supervises pre- and post- game activities. Monitors academic progress of student-athletes in the program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Recruits student-athletes that will best represent the College academically, athletically, and in the community while abiding by all College, Florida College System Activities Association (FSCAA), and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) rules, regulations, and procedures.
2. Demonstrates, coaches, and teaches student athletes to improve their skill level and team functioning.
3. Coordinates and maintains academic monitoring procedure to promote student success, including attending mandatory study halls and reviewing academic progress.
4. Manages the softball program budget, facilities, and equipment.
5. Develops and maintains practice and competition schedule, including travel arrangements, within available resources.
6. Supervises assistants, coaches, and student managers, including selecting, scheduling, mentoring, training, developing, and evaluating performance.
7. Coordinates fundraising efforts for the softball team in collaboration with athletics leadership, including running softball summer camps for community members.
8. Markets the successes of the softball program at the College and to other state colleges, community leaders, and external media representatives.
9. Establishes and maintains relationships and communication within the softball community, such as potential student athletes, coaches, and community organizations.
10. Tracks, records, and reports statistics to state and national organizations.
11. Secures and supervises housing for student-athletes, as applicable.
12. Develops and maintains appropriate parameters for participation under student code of conduct policy guidelines.
13. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution.
2. Two years of assistant coaching or coaching experience in high school or higher education.
3. Valid driver's license and ability to obtain Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire, with acceptable driving record.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Master’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution
2. Three (3) years of community/jr. college or university head coaching experience or five (5) years high school head coaching experience at the varsity level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES :
1. Extensive softball knowledge.
2. Ability to demonstrate and teach athletic skills.
3. Excellent planning and organizing skills; ability to anticipate outcomes.
4. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as critical thinking ability.
5. Ability to successfully develop and manage relationships at all levels of the organization and with external community and stakeholders.
6. Ability to lead and motivate others to achieve objectives.
7. Ability to effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities, and utilization of resources.
8. Excellent Microsoft Office 365 skills (Outlook, Word, Excel) and the ability to become proficient in videoconferencing applications, such as Teams/Zoom.
9. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
10. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
11. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS :
1. Works flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
2. Travels overnight to events and tournaments, as required.
3. Works outside exposed to heat, cold, rain, sun, wind, and other weather conditions.
4. Works on athletic sports fields.
5. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs of equipment, with assistance.
6. Required to drive College vehicles.
