The Deputy Athletic Director assists the Assistant Vice President for Athletic Strategy and External Relations of William Jewell College’s Department of Athletics through administrative oversight, personnel management, budget management, facilities management, engagement with students and parents, liaison relationships with the NCAA and other regulatory and stakeholder bodies, and internal and external communications.
Responsibilities and Duties
Oversee all operations of the Athletic Department, including:
engaging as primary point of contact with human resources, campus finance, registrar’s office, and facility management
oversees the department’s annual budget and the budgeting process for teams and departments.
facilitating recruitment and retention efforts among all programs and students through engagement with the Office of Admission and Student Life
overseeing academic success monitoring for student athletes through engagement with the Academic Achievement Center
leading accurate reporting of all compliance related requirements with NCAA, GLVC, and William Jewell with oversight for the Department’s Compliance Officer
communicating student-athlete academic concerns to head coaches and athletic director.
creating and communicating all appropriate resources to student athletes and parents
serving as head coaches’ primary point of contact for registrar, campus finance, and facility related questions
ensuring proper account reconciliation, invoicing, check requests, and bill payment for all external vendors
overseeing facility, transportation, and student-worker scheduling for all practices and games

Requirements
Experience with management budgets and building budgets with coaches and other staff
Understanding of human resources policies and practices
Awareness of best practices in collegiate and high school athletics, recruitment, retention, and the student experience
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
Experience managing student databases and software used for expense authorization
Sound communication skills in both one-on-one and group settings as well as written correspondence
Excellent time management skills.
Integrity, dependability, and leadership qualities
Ability to plan, organize, conduct and participate in effective staff meetings
Working Conditions
Normal office environment. Requires evening and/or weekend work with regularity. Requires being on call for addressing emergent needs or questions.
Supervisory Responsibility
Oversees Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations, Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. Immediate supervisory responsibility for all Head Coaches.
