Under the general direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for External Communications, oversee all aspects of the athletics communications unit ensuring the maintenance and adherence to the philosophies and regulations of the Conference, NCAA, University, State, and federal entities. Oversee the creation and implementation of a comprehensive media relations strategy for the Athletics Department that focuses on optimizing local, regional, and national exposure of UC Davis Athletics Department. Manage a team of four full time staff. The Director will serve as primary media relations contact for Football, and select additional sports[DS2.1]. Responsible for the overall development, supervision, and administration of the athletics communications unit for Intercollegiate Athletics (ICA). Responsible for direction of the unit consistent with industry best practices for an NCAA Division I program.

• Master's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
• More than 5 years' experience in an NCAA Division I program, conference office, or professional sports. 
• Strong/established media contacts.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
