Position Summary
The Director for Sports Information plays a crucial role in managing communication between the athletic department and the media, fans, and stakeholders. This position is essential for ensuring that athletic programs receive proper recognition and media coverage while maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders. Responsibilities typically include providing accurate and timely information (compile statistics, write press releases, create media guides, and update websites and social media platforms to ensure the public has access to the latest news); managing media relations (serve as the primary contact for journalists, coordinating interviews, press conferences, and media coverage of sporting events); promoting the athletic department (develop marketing strategies to increase visibility and support for teams, often organizing special events and outreach programs); handling digital media (oversee social media accounts, post updates, and engage with fans online to enhance the department’s brand); maintaining statistical records (track and report team and individual statistics, ensuring compliance with league and institutional policies); and game day operations (manage press box/table operations, live stats, and scoreboard updates during games).
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a communications-related field; two years of experience working in a sport media position requiring previous interaction with athletic teams, coaches, athletes and media outlets.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree; 2 years of experience in a sports information office with experience working with Prestostats, InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office; demonstrated proficiency in digital media platforms and content creation tools; strong writing, editing and communications skills.

Compensation
$47,000-$51,000 annually depending on experience and qualifications.
