JOB SUMMARY:

Dynamic and experienced leader responsible for Alvernia University’s NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program. Administration of all aspects of the university’s athletic and recreation programs, and services. Management and supervision of professional staff, charged with daily operation, departmental programs, resources, administration, strategic planning, and assessment. Fosters an environment that supports the student athletics, academics, and personal development. Engages the broader campus community in recreational activities.

The director will champion diversity, equity, and inclusion, uphold the highest standards of integrity and compliance, and strategically position the university's athletics and recreation programs for sustained success.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Leadership & Strategy

1. Develop and implement developmental strategic vision planning for athletics and recreation that promotes Franciscan ideals and adherence to the Mission of the University, including implementation and assessment of strategy. 
2. Accountable for directing the University's intercollegiate athletics program and establishing policies and procedures that achieve the parallel goals of development of quality, competitive athletics teams and support the individual educational goals of student-athletes
3. Provide leadership and oversight for club sports, intramurals, fitness programs, and recreational facilities.
4. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration across all programs and staff.

Athletics Administration

1. Oversee the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and professional development of coaches, administrative staff, and other personnel.
2. Develop and manage operating capital budgets for athletics and recreation, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities.
3. Represent the university leadership in conference meetings, NCAA events, and other external community engagements at professional meetings and community committees.

Student Success & Engagement 

1. Promote the academic achievement and personal development of student-athletes, ensuring access to resources for academic support, mental health, and career readiness.
2. Enhance student engagement through robust recreational programming and facilities.

Facilities & Operations

1. Provide oversight into the maintenance, scheduling, and development of athletic and recreational facilities. 
2. Plan for future facility improvements and expansions in alignment with strategic goals.

Community Engagement & Fundraising

1. Build strong relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners to secure financial and programmatic support.
2. Serve as a visible ambassador for athletics and recreation on campus and in the community.
3. Collaborate with university leadership on fundraising campaigns and external relations efforts.
4. Continuously research changes in athletics at comparable institutions that may add value to the university’s capacity to attract students.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:

1. Commitment to the mission statement, core values, and goals of Alvernia University.
2. Master’s degree required. 
3. Significant experience leading successful organizations. 
4. Proven ability to foster an inclusive and supportive environment for diverse populations.
5. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of effective collaboration across departments.
6. Ability to work nights and weekends.
7. Occasional travel will be required.
