Job Description
Position Summary The function of the San Diego State University Athletic Event Management/Facilities and Operations Department is to implement strategies to effectively manage and perform daily functions of all Athletic Department sanctioned events while maintaining and organizing the facilities in which these events occur. Incumbent will be the primary event coordinator for swimming & diving, water polo, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, secondary event coordinator for baseball and softball and will also assist with game management of football and men’s basketball. In addition, this position handles certain day-to-day tasks that deal with departmental administrative and clerical duties including, but not limited to, scheduling, controlling inventory of various items; assisting with budget monitoring, credential distribution and game contract administration. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position with an anticipated end date of December 31, 2024 with the possibility of reappointment. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary The Department of Athletics, utilizing the services of over 150 employees, is responsible for the intercollegiate athletics program at San Diego State University. Currently, there are 18 sport programs, approximately 500 student-athletes, and 17 offices in the department. The offices include the following: The Aztec Club, Administration, Athletic Medicine, Business Office, Compliance, Corporate Sales, Development, Equipment, Event Management/Facilities and Operations, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing, Media Relations, Strength and Conditioning, Student-Athlete Academic Support Services, Ticket Office, and Video. Education and Experience Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations; and typing and keyboard skills. These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.
Key Qualifications One year of experience in an intercollegiate athletics environment, especially in a facilities/operations support role is preferred. Experience in leading student workers. Ability to plan, organize, and schedule athletic activities. Experience with athletic contest agreement preparation. Experience with preparing championship bids and/or hosting championships. Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures. Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Experience with Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, Adobe Creative Suite, and/or Google Drive. Experience with distributing credentials. Ability to independently prioritize and handle work assignments. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Licenses/Certifications Required California Driver's License.
Compensation and Benefits Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,338 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
