Position Overview:
The Football assistant coach is responsible for assisting the Football head coach in leading a successful Football program at Manchester University. This will include assisting in managing all aspects of coaching, eligibility, recruitment, retention, budget, and scheduling. The Football assistant coach is also responsible for assisting the Football head coach in fundraising for the Football program, and Game Day management assignments.

The Football assistant coach is also responsible for assisting the Football head coach in fundraising for the Football program, and Game Day management assignments.

Essential job functions:

• Eligibility, including:
  1. Furnishes a list of team members for eligibility clarification before preseason, after preseason, and at the end of the year.
  2. Monitors student-athletes eligibility during the season.
  3. Works with Student Life colleagues to coordinate support for student-athletes.
• Recruiting, including:
  1. Recruitment of student-athletes with a commitment to academic success.
  2. Supervise and coordinate athletic recruiting efforts with the assistant coaching staff and Office of Admissions.
  3. Provide an annual recruitment plan.
• Retention, including:
  1. Work with the Office of Student Life, Office of Enrollment, and Athletic Director to establish retention programs and retention rates for the program.
  2. Maintain a satisfactory retention rate for the program.
  3. Track retention rates within the program.
  4. Benchmark internally, within the University, and
  5. Externally, with other NCAA Division III schools.
  6. Report on retention progress for the program.
• Budget, including:
  1. Prepares the initial budget request.
  2. Orders equipment through established procedures.
  3. Arranges team transportation, makes hotel reservations and organizes team meals on off-campus trips.
  4. Completes a yearly inventory. Issues, collects and stores all equipment. Arranges for equipment repair.
• Coaching, Scheduling and Team Management, including:
  1. Determines goals and objectives for sport within the philosophy of the institution.
  2. Organizes and conducts practice/training sessions.
  3. Insure appropriate safety precautions during practice, games and team travel.
  4. Cooperation with the Athletic Training staff by submitting practice schedules, game schedules, and complete roster information in a timely fashion.
  5. Works with the Sports Information Director in regard to internal and external publicity.
  6. Works with the Director of Athletics on scheduling and travel details.
  7. Works with the Director of Athletics on field or court preparations and ensures facilities are set up.
  8. Arrange for alternate eating plans if practice times conflict with the food service schedule.
  9. Establishes guidelines for proper conduct of student-athletes.
  10. Recommends student-athletes for awards.
  11. Evaluates assistant coaches yearly and recommends any changes to the Director of Athletics.
  12. Provide adequate feedback and evaluation to student-athletes as to potential, progress, and performance.
  13. Responsible for driving University owned vehicles to away competitions.
  14. Complete reports as required for the athletic department, other campus offices, and external constituents.
  15. Monitor facilities as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Willingness to enhance professional growth by attending clinics and workshops as well as belonging to national and state coaching associations.

• Ability to represent the Athletic Department in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.

• Ability to abide by the rules for the sport of the NCAA, HCAC, and Manchester University at all times.

• Ability to attend athletic staff meetings, mandatory student-athlete programs, admissions events, sports banquets and athletic fundraising activities.

• Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or five years of coaching experience is required.
• Experience in NCAA Division III athletics preferred, as a coach or student-athlete.
• Successful completion of the NCAA Division III Rules Test.
• CPR/AED First Aid Certification required (available on-site).

Work schedule: This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position. This is a twelve (12) month position. Travel is required and includes flexible work hours, especially in-season. M-F with weekends required.
