The Athletics Department at Whittier College is seeking a FT Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach/Sports Information.
The Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach is responsible for assisting in the organization and management of an NCAA Division III women’s soccer program in a manner consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Department of Athletics and Whittier College. The candidate must demonstrate excellent communication skills, maintain high ethical standards, and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment by building and sustaining collaborative working relationships with colleagues across the Athletics Department and the College.
The successful candidate will have experience recruiting, developing, and retaining student-athletes at the NCAA Division III level. In addition to coaching responsibilities, this position will support the department’s athletic communications efforts by collaborating with department leadership, coaches, and student-athletes to promote programs, highlight achievements, and tell the stories of Whittier Athletics in alignment with departmental priorities and brand standards.
This role will also include sports information administrative responsibilities as assigned by the executive director of athletics and the assistant athletic director for communications.
Exempt Status: Non-Exempt (hourly) Full Time/Part Time status: Full Time, 11-month (off June) Salary Range: $51,500-$52,000 annual; Salary will commensurate with experience, skills, and knowledge.

Position Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions of the Job
I. Assistant Soccer Coach
Manage and train the part-time assistant coaches.
Manage player personnel.
Assist in planning and conducting daily practices, game strategies, and player development programs.
To help maintain a NCAA roster of 45 players.
Set and sustain a fall-to-fall non-graduating retention rate of 86%.
Plan and conduct effective practices and training sessions.
Teach sport-specific skills, strategies, and systems of play for developmental program.
Analyze performance and provide constructive feedback.
Help prepare student athletes for the next level of competition.
Prepare athletes physically and mentally for competition for developmental program.
Organize and lead player meetings and video review.
Plan and organize offense practice and meeting schedule.
Oversee video breakdown, scouting of opponents and creation of scouting reports.
Be responsible for game planning, including creating and modify schemes based on opponent, personnel and game conditions.
Oversee player handbook production.
Oversee at least one major duty within the soccer program (video, recruiting, operations).
II. Athletic Administrative Duties
Serve and assist the head coach to establish a highly competitive NCAA and SCIAC Soccer program.
Attend all practice and training sessions, contests, team events, and meetings.
Carry out assignments, including, but not limited to participation in on-field instruction, scouting of opponents, scouting of prospective student-athletes, coaching meetings, video sessions, weekly recruiting sessions, and overall program evaluation decisions.
Exhibit high ethical standards, and the ability to work in a team orientated environment.
Coach and organize for all practices and games.
Act as lead recruiter in the recruiting of quality student-athletes in the sport of soccer.
Work within the established budget.
Oversee and maintain a regional territory of recruitment of soccer student-athletes by searching, evaluating, and recruiting student athletes who fit both the academic and soccer requirements of the institution.
Focus on the retention of student athletes.
Provide scheduling and scheduling conflict resolutions.
Serve as point person in team travel planning and support for experience growth for the team and student-athletes.
Monitor student-athlete academic progress.
Assist in Competitive game day preparation and execution.
Comply with all policies and regulations governing the NCAA.
Adhere to NCAA, SCIAC, Whittier College and Athletic Department policies and procedures.
Be responsible for the conduct of all student-athletes in the program, including during practice and training sessions, competition, travel, at hotels, in locker rooms, etc.
Show respect for officials, media personnel, opposing coaches, parents, fans, student-athletes, fellow coaches, and school staff.
Work to promote school spirit and enthusiasm.
Help develop teamwork, attitude, character, effort and strict adherence to rules of training and conduct.
Support all student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence.
Work to promote unity on the coaching staff within the framework of the athletic department.
Perform any other duties or responsibilities directly related to the coaching position as directed by the head soccer coach and/or executive director of athletics.
Demonstrate independent judgment and ability to prioritize tasks without supervision.
Sports Information Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the sports information director in overseeing the daily operation of the Sports Information department.
Will serve as the main contact for sports as assigned.
Will promote Whittier College athletics through various social media platforms.
Delegation of responsibilities to student assistants and work-study.
Prepare and disseminate information on each athlete in each sport and send to all appropriate media outlets.
Promote and work for national recognition of deserving athletes and teams.
Responsible for all media needs at athletic events.
Assignment of coverage for news events with articles and photos.
Oversee reporting of statistics to the conference and national levels by deadlines.
Create and develop content across various social media platforms.
Assist with NCAA reports that involve student-athlete achievement and accolades.
Represent Athletics on committees.
Expectations and Ability of the Job
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Demonstrate ability to teach, motivate and develop student-athletes.
Serve as event day manager for athletic contests as assigned.
Participate actively in campus events and on College committees to support the College community and provide a leadership presence.
Demonstrate high integrity with high educational standards while exhibiting a strict adherence to NCAA, conference, university and department rules and regulations as well as a solid commitment to academic, student-athletes' welfare, ethnic diversity and gender equity.
Have experience working with diverse constituencies, including sensitivity to multicultural issues, and the ability to work productively in a collaborative environment to meet deadlines and expectations.
Must competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Market, manage and instruct youth camps, clinics and community engagement efforts in summer and throughout the academic year.
Have capacity to make decisions in place of the head coach if required.
Position Specifications and Requirements
Knowledge and Education: Bachelor’s Degree, Master's preferred.
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Electronic Devices and Software: Institutional requirement to understand and operate specific programming needing to track and maintain student recruitment and eligibility.
License(s) and Certificate(s): First-aid and CPR certified. To fulfill the recruitment and scouting requirements of the position, a valid driver’s license is needed to conduct travel to other locations away from campus.

Environmental Conditions: Position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, and college events. Consecutive days of work related activity often exceed seven or more during season. Office hours will be established in consultation with the executive director of athletics.
