Job Description:

Job Summary

The Assistant Women's Softball Coach is responsible for assisting in planning and administering all aspects of the Women's Softball Program, as assigned. Under the direction of the Head Women's Softball Coach, the Assistant Women's Softball Coach should model and maintain an exemplary student-athlete concept and support the personal development of the student athlete's on and off the court/field behavior. The Assistant Women's Softball Coach is expected to maintain a positive public image and uphold a standard of professionalism that reflects favorably upon Our Lady of the Lake University and the Saints Athletic Program.  All actions, communications, and media, both public and private, that are associated with the coach should demonstrate integrity, respect, and alignment with the mission and values of the OLLU community. This includes behavior on social media, during public appearances, in interactions with student-athletes, and in all professional settings.

 

Performance Evaluation Metrics

1. Student Athlete Welfare, monitoring academic performance through study tables and weekly check ins to maintain a team GPA of 3.2
2. Improve team fielding percentage (.900) and reduce errors per game (1.00)
3. Fundraise $5,000 through round robins and camps to support team's overall goal.

 

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach in all areas of the Softball program
2. Assists with scouting and recruitment of quality student-athletes 
3. Monitors academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes 
4. Assists in special events and tournaments, championships, fundraisers, and/or clinics to include, but not limited to, major fundraisers, camps, and/or clinics
5. Ensures the highest professional standards and behavior with regard to adherence to NAIA rules and regulations
6. Daily field maintenance (drag, water, game day field prep, post-game field maintenance)
7. Advise student-athletes regarding rules and regulations related to financial aid and eligibility
8. Counsel team members in academic, disciplinary, personal matters while adhering to FERPA guidelines
9. Attend all scheduled meetings
10. Participates in annual continuing education programs regarding NAIA rules
11. Coordinates and assist administration with home and visiting team's game day activities (schedule practices, setup and breakdown of equipment, personnel, field set up, etc.)
12. Subscribes and adheres to the NAIA Coaches Code of Conduct
13. Adhere and promotes the NAIA Champions of Character student development
14. Attend all scheduled meetings
15. Assists in communications with the Sports Information Director to communicate the accomplishments and endeavors of the team, both individuals and as a whole
16. Communicate effectively with all academic/faculty advisors, financial aid, business office, registrar and other university personnel
17. Game Day Administration as assigned.

 

Additional Responsibilities:

1. Participates in Student Affairs Division programs and activities
2. Serves as liaison for the university community of faculty, staff, students and administrators
3. Adhere to university policies, state and federal laws concerning Title IX, HIPPA, and FERPA policies
4. Contribute and support the university vibrancy initiative
5. Assist and maintain inventory at the beginning and end of the academic year
6. Assist with all other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Thorough knowledge of fundamentals, technical aspects, and strategy for assigned sport
2. Ability to recruit and retain qualified athletes and to facilitate timely progress toward graduation
3. Effective oral and written communication skills
4. Ability to learn, apply and adhere to NAIA rules and regulations
5. Ability to interact well with officials, coaches, parents, media, and the public
6. Ability to work with students of all faiths and mentor student-athletes
7. Demonstrated leadership skills
8. Ability to work collaboratively with other departments on campus
9. Excellent communication, organizational, and administrative skills
10. Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including weekend and evening hours

 

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor's Degree preferred
2. A minimum of three years of coaching experience, preferably in a college or university setting, with at least one year of experience coaching the assigned sport is preferred.
