Description

This position is responsible for assisting with athletic coaching, student-athlete supervision, recruiting, academic monitoring, practice and competition preparation, travel coordination, and other duties related to the track & field programs as assigned by the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. The Graduate Assistant will support all aspects of the program and may work with multiple event groups based on the candidate’s experience and the needs of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• Admission to a graduate program at Brevard College.
• Knowledge of the sport of track & field.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to recruit and mentor student-athletes in a Division III environment.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel with the team.
• Commitment to NCAA Division III philosophy and the mission of the institution.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and recruiting/database software.
• Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, faculty, staff, and campus partners.

Preferred

• Previous collegiate playing experience.
• Experience with event management, recruiting, or student-athlete development.
• Interest in pursuing a career in coaching. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

·         Medium work – exerts from 50 lbs of force often.

·         Subject to inside and outside conditions, repetitive motors Ability to demonstrate sport-specific techniques.

·         Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

·         Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

·         Ability to travel and supervise student-athletes during team travel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Assist the Director in planning, organizing, and conducting practices for track & field.

·         Provide technical instruction in assigned event areas (sprints,  jumps, throws, hurdles, pole vault, etc.) consistent with experience and expertise.

·         Coach student-athletes during practices and competitions while promoting skill development and sportsmanship.

·         Assist with the recruitment of qualified prospective student-athletes through phone calls, emails, campus visits, evaluations, and recruiting events in accordance with NCAA and institutional regulations.

·         Support the academic, personal, and athletic development of student-athletes by fostering accountability and a positive team culture.

·         Assist with practice planning, meet preparation, travel logistics, and equipment management.

·         Help coordinate and supervise home competitions, including facility setup, meet operations, and event management.

·         Maintain accurate recruiting, compliance, and team records as assigned.

·         Monitor student-athlete academic progress and encourage engagement with campus support services.

·         Assist with strength and conditioning coordination, wellness initiatives, and injury return-to-play communication with athletic training staff.

·         Promote the track & field program through community engagement, fundraising activities, camps, clinics, alumni relations, and social media as directed.

·         Represent the athletic department and the College in a professional manner at campus and community events.

·         Ensure compliance with NCAA Division III, conference, institutional, and departmental policies and procedures.

·         Perform administrative duties assigned by the staff, including scheduling, purchasing, budgeting assistance, and data management.

·         Participate in departmental meetings, professional development opportunities, and other athletics initiatives.

·         Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or Associate Vice President for Athletics.

·         Other duties as assigned.

Summary

Brevard College Athletics is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Assistant for Track & Field to support its NCAA Division III men's and women's track & field programs while pursuing a graduate degree at Brevard College. Reporting to the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country, this position provides valuable hands-on coaching and administrative experience by assisting with practice planning, recruiting, student-athlete development, academic monitoring, meet preparation, travel coordination, and day-to-day program operations. The Graduate Assistant may work with multiple event groups based on experience and the needs of the program.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree, be admitted to a graduate program at Brevard College, and demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Previous collegiate track & field experience is preferred, along with a commitment to mentoring student-athletes and embracing the NCAA Division III philosophy. Evening, weekend, and team travel are required.
