Job Title: Graduate Assistant – Athletics Communications

Position Summary:   This position is responsible for helping to develop and implement a comprehensive effort to promote and publicize Benedictine University’s Intercollegiate Athletics program. 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

1. Assist with developing a comprehensive and integrated communications program (including but not limited to media and public relations, publications, advertising, promotional items, signage, Web site, e-communications, video content) to help achieve the goals of the University’s Intercollegiate Athletics program.  Assist with developing a strategic marketing and promotion plan to increase awareness, engage and entertain fans, and increase attendance for all athletic programs. Oversee all game day promotions surrounding home athletic events through the creation and execution of game presentation, production and scripts.

2. Ensure that information is available in a timely and effective manner by developing and coordinating comprehensive coverage which focuses on all activities and includes information on student-athletes and teams. Create innovative and engaging content for social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram; continually research best practices of social media use among sport institutions.    

3. Ensure that necessary individual and team statistical data for University Intercollegiate Athletics program and opponents are gathered and disseminated through regular channels by developing, organizing and managing a program for staffing athletics events hosted by the University.          

4. Coordinate all athletics department photography including individual head shots, action photos, team photos, and special event photos. Manage the department’s digital photo catalog and photo galleries on the website.

Other Functions:

* Develop relationships within Benedictine University and the University community.
* Attend departmental and University related meetings and events.
* Maintain a positive student athlete assessment for program from student athletes.
* Work in coordination with University offices and departments to coordinate and facilitate University events.
* Maintain positive relationships with alumni, parents, students, officials, volunteers and fans.
* Serve on University, conference and national committees as needed.
* Positively promote Benedictine University and the Department of Athletics on campus and in the community.

Required Qualifications:

Education:    Bachelor's Degree Required

Experience: Experience within a collegiate athletic environment preferred, at the NCAA Division III level desired.

Qualifications: Applicant must be accepted into the Benedictine University graduate program and remain in good standing with the University.

Specific Skills:   Organizational skills, writing and typing skills, interpersonal skills, adobe skills, data entry and demonstrated supervisory skills.

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications:  Yes, Valid driver’s license and CPR/First Aid/ AED certification required within the first 90 days of employment.

Physical Requirements:

* May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.

* Must reach, bend, stoop, lift. Must sit, walk or stand for long periods of time. Ability to handle varying levels of stress while
maintaining professional demeanor.

* Possible lifting, bending, walking, kneeling, stretching, and stooping.

* Frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; outdoor exposure to sun/heat or cold weather.

* Ability to speak clearly so listeners can understand. Understand the speech of another person. See details of objects that are less than a few feet away or are more than a few feet away. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. General Customer
service and office environment.
