Position Summary

The Women’s Wrestling Graduate Assistant at Upper Iowa University reports directly to the Head Women’s Wrestling Coach and is responsible for assisting the women’s wrestling coaching staff in the planning and execution of all aspects and facets of the Upper Iowa women’s wrestling program. This is a 10-month position with the opportunity to renew for a second year which is subject to the individual maintaining a 3.0 GPA and meeting University expectations. Compensation includes a $1,000 monthly stipend and tuition assistance. 

Position Responsibilities

• On the mat coaching and player development including sport-specific technique on both an individual and team basis.
• Plan, organize, conduct, and evaluate practice sessions.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate game plans and strategies for assigned defensive positions. 
• Successfully analyze film, develop scouting reports, and facilitate athlete meetings.
• Serve as a leader, mentor, and role-model to student-athletes of the program through teaching life skills and encouraging positive character development.
• Monitor and support academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes.
• Assist with recruiting, retaining, and graduating student-athletes who contribute to the success of the program while following NCAA, GLVC, and UIU standards and regulations.
• Oversee and assist with all administrative duties and processes as assigned.
• Ensure compliance with all department, university, NCAA, and GLVC policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Perform additional job-related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications 

• Applicants must be admitted into a graduate program at Upper Iowa University and maintain a Grade Point Average of 3.0. 
• Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree. 
• Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. 
• A valid driver’s license and ability to meet the requirements to drive University vehicles required. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Collegiate wrestling experience and/or freestyle coaching experience and an understanding of NCAA Division II rules and regulations. 
• Experience wrestling/coaching lighter weight classes.
