The Head Acrobatics & Tumbling Coach is a full-time, twelve-month position and supervises a full-time Assistant Coaches at Morgan State University (NCAA Division I Institution). The position is responsible for overseeing all phases of the competitive Acrobatics & Tumbling team. The Acrobatics & Tumbling team competes in the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association and adheres to NCAA compliance as an NCAA emerging sport. The head coach must be able to support and promote the University’s mission.
Job Duties
Management
Provide positive guidance, specific skill instruction and concepts to the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes.
Monitor the academic progress of the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes and ensure the necessary support is provided as needed.
Lead planning meetings to strategize and coordinate practices and competition activities.
Promote and monitor the physical, mental, emotional and social well-being of the Acrobatics & Tumbling student-athletes.
Manage all aspects of the Acrobatics & Tumbling team budget to include coordinating team travel, meals after home competitions, apparel and footwear purchases, timely reconciliations, etc.
Recruiting
Recruit quality student-athletes to maintain preferred squad size by means of personal contact and correspondence, evaluating ability in-person and/or by video, and on-campus visits within MSU, NCAA and NCATA rules.
Maintain a database of prospective-student-athletes including high school, junior college and transfers.
Respond to all inquiries received within a reasonable timeframe, preferably 24 hours.
Build and maintain recruiting schedules within NCAA rules.
Manage official and unofficial visits of prospective student-athletes, including all associated documentation.
Community
Create and cultivate professional relationships within the community to build sponsorship and other fundraising opportunities.
Build and foster relationships with local, regional and national high schools.
Coordinate community service activities with MSU student-athlete development staff and MSU SAAC.
Other Duties
Plan and coordinate campus-based summer camps and clinics within NCAA guidelines.
Participate in professional development opportunities that will translate to growth of the Acrobatics & Tumbling program.
Ensure compliance and sound judgment with the University’s Title IX and other MSU policies and procedures.
Manage Morgan State University and personal student-athlete information confidentially and ethically.
Coordinate meet day management as necessary.
Must be able to travel on an as needed basis.
Attend regularly scheduled meetings (ex. rules education, academic success, head coaches, sport administrator, etc.) as requested.
Perform other duties, including administrative, as assigned by the Head Coach, Sports Administrator and/or the Vice President/Director of Athletics or designee.
Requested Minimum Qualifications
Education:
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in any discipline from an accredited
college or university.
Experience:
Experience managing and leading a High School or College Level Competitive Cheer, Gymnastics and/or Acrobatics Program or Team is required.
CPR/First Aid Certification and a valid driver’s license is also required.
The successful candidate must be able to receive Mental Health First Aid certification within one calendar year of the hire date and maintain certification thereafter.
Other Preferences for Consideration
Preferences
Candidates with a Masters Degree may be given preference.
Three (3) years or more of collegiate competitive acrobatics and tumbling, gymnastics or cheer
coaching experience at the Division I level is preferred.
Budget, Planning, and Computer Skills are also a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates should be able to provide instruction/feedback to student-athletes while standing or squatting.
Candidates should be able to lift, pull and push mats and other equipment used for Acrobatics & Tumbling.
Must be able to climb stairs, bend, squat and other movements associated with coaching an Acrobatics & Tumbling program.
Candidates must be able to use a computer, laptop, telephone, mats, props, etc.
