DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

Essential duties:

Supervision:

Athletic Training Room

• Overall day-to-day management of the activities and operations of the athletic training room.
• Schedule and supervise all athletic training room staff and student workers.
• Supervise and direct athletic training event and practice coverage, operations of the Head Coach of Strength and Conditioning and contracted health care providers.
• Schedule and participate in medical coverage of practice and home events for 21 varsity teams.
• Ensure evaluation, treatment and appropriate ongoing health care of all student-athletes.
• Communicate and collaborate with Team Physician, Health Services, Athletic Department Coaches/Staff, Athletic Training Staff, Strength and Conditioning Coach, and health care providers.

Administration

• Annually certify safety emergency planning.
• Provide clinical care in a manner consistent with the written and verbal instructions of the physician or clinical management protocols that have been approved by the university team physician.
• Complete accurate and complete injury records and student-athlete files.
• Provide emergency response, injury evaluation, rehabilitative programs, and documentation of care for athletically-related activities involving student-athletes. Accurate inventory and fiscally responsible allocation of budget.
• Hire, supervise, and mentor full and part-time athletic trainer staff, head strength and conditioning coach, intern athletic trainers, and undergraduate and graduate student assistants.
• Develop weekly work schedules for staff members to ensure sufficient coverage of practice and competition.

Compliance and Safety

• Serve as the NCAA-required Athletics Healthcare Administrator and ensure compliance with all NCAA-mandated protocols.
• Coordinates and implements annual Mental Health Emergency Action Plan with Team Physician, Director of Student Health Services, Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), local EMS & Police, Athletic Administration, Athletic Training staff, Strength and Conditioning Staff and other appropriate personnel.
• Report number of concussion and other requested injuries to the NCAA on annual basis.
• Coordinate in the evaluation to determine if environmental conditions are safe for intercollegiate competition and practices.
• Establish injury management protocols and emergency medical plans.
• Coordinates universal precautions and procedures pursuant to OSHA guidelines for wound care and bio-waste management.
• Coordinate education of coaching and athletic training staff and implementation of NCAA Medical Hardship waivers.
• Reviews and maintains procedures and protocols reflective of industry best practices.
• Annually evaluate and update athletic training policy & procedure manual.
• Receives, disseminates, and monitors health and safety legislation, resources, and inter-association recommendations.
• Ensures staff compliance with maintaining required national certifications, state licensure, and continuing education units.
• Coordinate with clinical education for athletic training students from Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) approved programs.

Secondary Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with Campus Safety and other on campus units in the evaluation to determine if environmental conditions are safe for outdoor campus activities.
• Coordinates with Director of Student Health Services on the annual evaluation of paperwork necessary for pre-participation physical examination for first-year, transfer and returning student-athletes.
• Coordinates with the Director of Student Health Services the administration of pre-participation physical examination for medical clearances for student-athletes, including collection of appropriate medical forms, insurance documentation, and compliance with NCAA regulations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

• Master’s degree in athletic training or related area of study from an accredited college or university is required.
• Five (5) years of progressive experience in athletic training Sports Medicine with strong knowledge of and use of appropriate therapeutic modalities in a collegiate setting. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Demonstrated experience in managing budgets, health care staff, and health care policies.
• Demonstrated knowledge and compliance of NCAA rules, regulations, and medical guidance.
• Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA policies and practices.
• A clean, valid driver’s license with evidence of insurability.
• Current CPR, AED, and first aid certifications required. Training and recertification can be provided if necessary.
• Knowledge of sports medicine injury prevention, healthcare delivery, risk management, ensuring compliance with federal, state, university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations related to privacy OSHA and healthcare
• Demonstrated knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA policies and practices
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies in a diverse community
• Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
• Ability and desire to perform accurate detail-oriented work, to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and to establish a professional demeanor
• Ability to develop and/or facilitate internal training related to NCAA guidelines
• Ability to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, extended periods of time, travel, and be on-call as a regular part of the job.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree in athletic training or related field is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of ten years of experience in athletic training or related field strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

• Night and/or weekend hours will be required.
• Occasional lifting of weight over 40 pounds.
