Football Program in the Empire 8 athletic conference. The primary focus is student-focused administration and innovative leadership of the
NCAA
Division
III
football program including, practice preparation, skill instruction, on-field coaching, player development, recruiting, budget management, team travel, scheduling, leadership and management of coaching and support staff, student-athlete academic success and student athlete health and welfare. This is a full-time position with an 11-month period of professional obligation.

Major Responsibilities:
• Maintain and build the sport program that is competitive at the conference level
• Recruit highly qualified student-athletes with a commitment to a respectful community and academic success: recruit student-athletes in accordance with all applicable rules and regulations; recruit an adequate number of student-athletes; recruit student-athletes of sufficient skill to maintain the quality of the football program and student-athlete academic progress
• Retain highly qualified student-athletes through academic progress and development of student-athletes: assess academic performance of student-athletes regularly, at least once each semester; ensure academic retention of student-athletes minimally mirrors retention rate of the college; demonstrate a high level of involvement in the personal, academic development, health and welfare of student-athletes
• Demonstrate effective coaching through content knowledge, implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan, practice construction and execution; using communication skills, cross-cultural competencies and the affective dimension (e.g., interpersonal interactions, enthusiasm, respect and rapport). Plan and coordinate effective team practices in preparation for competition; serve as game coach for each contest
• Demonstrate effective teaching and advising: instruct student-athletes in how to perform in their sport at the college level; instruct student-athletes in physical health (strength, conditioning & skill training); instruct individual and team concepts, and safety
• Administer the individual sport team budget throughout the academic year; ensure that monies are appropriately spent and documented
• Ensure all sport specific equipment and uniforms are: issued at beginning of each season; maintained throughout the season; collected and returned immediately at the end of the season, and; inventoried on an annual basis
• Manage operational, fiscal and administrative responsibilities of the football program; Ensure all documentation and paperwork is completed in a timely fashion

and Empire 8 Conference regulations and adhere to Department of Athletics and

• Demonstrate a clear vision for the program and a willingness to serve students, community members, colleagues, administrators, faculty and fans
• Demonstrate commitment to a safe, inclusive and diverse working and learning environment
• Represent the College in a professional and ethical manner consistent with

Cortland mission, vision values and campus priorities
• Demonstrate continued growth and development in sport as demonstrated by continuing education, participation in professional organizations, enrollment in training programs, and research
• Effective management of coaching and support staff, and; leadership development of staff and student athletes in the sport team
• Supervise athletic facilities including the weight room to ensure student-athlete safety
• Coordinate fundraising activities to support the program financially
• Reports to the Director of Athletics
• Supervises assistant coaches and volunteers
• Works closely with athletic trainers, athletic support staff, and assistant athletic directors
•
Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience coaching football at the high school level, or in an intercollegiate or professional football program
• Masters degree
• 5 or more years of experience coaching in an intercollegiate or professional football program
• 2 or more years of experience as a head coach in an intercollegiate or professional football program
• Supervisory experience or evidence of ability to recruit and select staff, encourage professional growth, communicate and delegate duties, analyze staff effectiveness, evaluate assistants, problem-solve, lead a staff who bring skill and integrity to the program, and; maintain discipline, morale and cooperation
