About the Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Administration, the Head Coach –Men’s and Women’s Fencing is responsible for the oversight and operation of the College’s varsity intercollegiate men’s and women’s fencing programs, including all aspects of coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and managing the intercollegiate program within the policies, and principles of Haverford College and the NCAA.

About the Position
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Administration, the Head Coach –Men’s and Women’s Fencing is responsible for the oversight and operation of the College’s varsity intercollegiate men’s and women’s fencing programs, including all aspects of coaching, recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, and managing the intercollegiate program within the policies, and principles of Haverford College and the NCAA.

Primary Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with College policies, and state laws, including those pertaining to required clearance, conference, and NCAA rules and regulations
• Oversee the activities of assistant coaches, staff, boosters, and student-athletes to verify compliance, with a mandate to self-report violations
• Demonstrate success in identifying, evaluating, recruiting, and retaining student athletes who meet both the academic and athletic standards of Haverford College and its Fencing program
• Coordinate practice planning, skill development, and design coaching strategies
• Conduct practices and tournaments throughout the season. Responsible for communication/coordination with the Strength and Conditioning Coaches
• Supervise and evaluates assistant coaches
• Provide support for the coordination and execution of the athletic programs
• Assist with the supervision and training of athletic programming staff; develop employee manuals and implement training programs and/or internships
• Assist with the implementation of marketing and advertising plans for programs; present materials for camps, clinics, public speaking, and/or special events
• Adhere to general and program-specific safety policies, including the communication and enforcement of safety practices; maintain certifications
• Suggest items for purchase in support of athletic programing; ensure proper use of sports-related equipment and report issues; assist with equipment inventory and maintenance
• Adhere to and support the work unit’s strategic plan and adhere to the established programming budget the College’s guidelines
• Operate within a budget that covers all operational costs of the program. Additional team fundraising activities, as approved by the Athletic Director, may be overseen to supplement special team gear and/or trips
• Maintain liaison with college administrators, athletic trainers, and athletic communication director as appropriate for a head coach
• Always represent Haverford in a professional manner including dealings with officials and opposing coaches
• Maintain continued and consistent communication with fencing alumni
• Schedule opponents in a manner that meets both budgetary and competitive goals
• Support community service programs for student athletes
• Other duties as assigned may include teaching fencing as a physical education class, and supervising use of the fencing room

Line of Report: The Head Coach for Men’s and Women’s Fencing reports to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Internal Operations and Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Four years of fencing coaching experience at the college level

Professional Competencies

• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Excellent people skills
• Strong organizational skills

• Master’s Degree

Special Requirements

• Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
• Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
• First Aid, CPR, and AED certification
