Assist the university in implementing the Statement of Purpose
Assist the university in implementing the long-range institutional and financial plans
Develop and implement a long-range strategic plan for a competitive and mission-aligned men’s basketball program.
Oversee daily operations including practice planning, team travel, budgeting, equipment management, and scheduling.
Ensure adherence to institutional policies, athletic conference bylaws, NAIA rules, Title IX, and all relevant federal/state regulations.
Provide high-quality instruction, skill development, and competitive preparation for student-athletes.
Foster a culture of accountability, discipline, sportsmanship, and respect.
Apply evidence-based training methods that prioritize athlete safety and well-being.
Oversee strength and conditioning plans in collaboration with appropriate staff.
Recruit student-athletes who demonstrate both competitive ability and the capacity to thrive in a Christian academic environment.
Conduct evaluations, manage communication pipelines, and maintain full documentation of recruiting activity for compliance purposes.
Promote pathways for academic success, eligibility maintenance, and retention.
Uphold student-athlete conduct expectations and apply corrective actions when necessary, in coordination with appropriate leadership.
Document and report any health, safety, behavioral, or Title IX concerns immediately and appropriately.
Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches, graduate assistants, and other staff through appropriate university hiring procedures.
Ensure all staff and students adhere to university policies, mandatory training, and compliance requirements including HR, Student Life, Title IX, and Athletics regulations.
Maintain transparent and timely communication with Athletics Administration and HR on personnel, compliance, and operational issues.
Provide mentorship and establish performance expectations.
Represent the university and program with professionalism in all settings—campus events, donor functions, community engagements, and media.
Foster relationships with local clubs, high schools, alumni, and supporters.
Participate in fundraising and promotional efforts in alignment with university advancement goals.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
Experience in the area of Men’s Basketball
Proper understanding of all NAIA Rules and Regulations
Ability to manage players and coaches both at practice and in the field of competition
Knowledge of sport-specific strategy, athlete development, and compliance requirements.
Ability to use common office productivity software, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to learn WCU’s accounting and student database software
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations and people
Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and a clear driving history
Commitment to the mission and Christian values of the university.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Previous head coaching experience at the intercollegiate level.
Proven success in recruiting competitive student-athletes.
Familiarity with NAIA systems and reporting tools.
Physical Demands
Must be able to withstand the physical demands of coaching Men’s Basketball
Must have ability to demonstrate skill development drills
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. of equipment
Should be in good overall physical shape
Should have knowledge of overall basketball equipment maintenance
Must be able to do evening/weekend work, travel, and work irregular hours aligned with the athletics calendar
Must be able to drive both passenger cars and vans both locally and out of state as needed within the athletic calendar and schedule
