The primary responsibilities of this position include all of the following: recruiting, teaching, student advising, and continued scholarship in the field. Additional responsibilities include leadership as the Head Cross-Country, Track and Field Coach. This position is to provide leadership for the intercollegiate programs; to administer and promote the program within the University mission. Preparation of training/practice sessions, recruiting, pregame meet organization, scouting reports, team travel arrangements, monitoring student-athlete academic performance, professional communication in regards to the coaching staff and individual players.
Bachelor’s degree plus Collegiate level competition and/or coaching experience with a commitment to Division
III
philosophy and experience with
NCAA
or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid driver license with good driving record: must be insurable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills required and a strong commitment to excellence in coaching.
Skill in public relations; training or instructing student-athletes; interpersonal communication.
Ability to manage a budget; analyze situations and develop solutions; provide leadership and direction.
Ability to objectively evaluate physical skills in the areas of physical potential and mental capability for intercollegiate athletics.
Working knowledge of
NCAA
DIII
Cross-country, Track and Field rules and regulations; the ability to teach critical skills, competitive skills, tactical strategies and training techniques.
Adheres to departmental policies and procedures, as well as rules and regulations of the University, the
MAC
and the
NCAA
.
Ability to effectively communicate both within and outside the College including, but not limited to, student- athletes, parents, recruits, coaches, athletic training staff, and athletic department staff.
Ability to provide effective leadership to student athletes to encourage both successful academic development and competitive performance.
Travel is a requirement of this position
Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Evening and weekend hours are a requirement of this position.
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Position involves both inside sedentary work and outside work on the field coaching and training situations with student-athletes; Major hazardous conditions can result from the operations of field maintenance equipment; Exposure to fertilizer, lawn chemicals, and weather conditions. Evening and weekend hours in all types of weather, with travel between campuses necessary. Lifting required (i.e. set-up of scorers table, etc.), some manual labor is expected. Because of the location of athletic facilities on each campus, organizing and some transportation between campuses is expected.
Implement and maintain a quality recruiting program that serves the coaching staff of Stevenson University on both campuses. Manage team rosters, recruiting messaging and compliance through Teamworks software.
Teaching responsibilities include time spent in the environment (track, cross-country course, fitness center, etc.) and in immediate preparation for the instruction. Maintaining and improving competence in the sports being taught.
Provide leadership for the team; establish coaching strategies and teaching methods to develop student-athletes’ skills and teamwork; analyze team performance and adjust strategies as needed.
Coach/Manage the Cross-Country, Track and Field teams to include: recruitment and supervision of student athletes; scheduling, counseling, equipment inventory, office work, budget preparation, working with sports information staff, public relations staff, student services personnel and athletics staff to ensure quality programs.
Work evenings and weekends where necessary to assist the Associate Athletic Director/
SWA
and the Athletic Director in maintaining the athletic program and to assure that those programs are properly managed, coached, staffed and administered.
Be available to travel with the Cross-Country, Track and Field teams and work nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
Duties include recruiting staff for the Cross-Country, Track and Field programs, oversee and supervise the staff, coaches, student workers, etc.
Develop policies and procedures for student-athletes
Develop policies and procedures for assistant coaches as it relates to recruiting and coaching strategies, athletic and academic student athlete development, and other duties as assigned.
Develop strategies to foster athletic and academic progress of student-athletes.
May perform marketing or public relations duties to promote the program.
Maintain and care for uniforms and equipment.
