This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, overseeing all phases of maintaining a successful American Collegiate Hockey Association hockey program within compliance of Marian University, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and ACHA, and NCAA rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Teaching/Coaching – 50%

1. 1. Responsible for in-game coaching.
   2. Keeps informed of contemporary trends, tactics, techniques and strategies in coaching, which includes developing a philosophy of what to teach and how to implement. Provides coaching and direction to assistant coaches, as well as praise and constructive feedback.
   3. Plans, implements and evaluates practice sessions. Communicates expectations, praise and corrective feedback in a clear and constructive manner.
   4. Develops effective game plans. Prepares team physically, mentally and emotionally for competition; maintains and meets high expectations for team athletic success.
   5. Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for academic achievement; monitors the academic progress of student-athletes.
   6. Instructs student-athletes on high expectations for student-athlete social responsibility and works to develop well-rounded student-athletes.
   7. Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper student-athlete conduct, both in and out of the athletic arena and works with the Director of Athletics to sanction those who do not meet the set standard.
   8. Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper safety. Monitors condition of equipment and facilities, and reports items in need of repair/maintenance to Instructs student-athletes on a standard of proper student-athlete conduct.

Recruitment – 15%

1. With the assistance of the Director of Athletics, define and achieve annual enrollment goals of the women’s hockey program.
2. Develops and maintains a system to identify prospective student-athletes and to work closely with area high school and junior program coaches to recruit quality student-athletes.
3. Create a successful recruitment plan that includes a calendar, budget, contacts with prospective student athletes, and milestone check-in points.
4. Collaborate with offices and department around campus to ensure student success.

Program Development -15%

1. Develops and implements a program which includes monitored academic progress in addition to performance.
2. Ability to work closely with the NCAA Women’s Hockey and ACHA Division II coaches to ensure success of all programs.
3. Organizes and coordinates all team travel.
4. Responsible for scheduling all future contests.
5. Conducts programs in compliance with the NCAA, NACC, ACHA, and Marian University rules and policies.
6. Participate in clinics, exhibitions, and camps, as approved

Administrative – 15%

1. 1. Manages all assistant coaches within the program(s).
   2. Responsible for managing and monitoring the program budget under the direction of the Director of Athletics.
   3. Assists the Director of Athletic Communications with statistics, press releases, and other publications
   4. Assist in department fundraising activities
   5. Maintains a positive work environment by cooperating in a professional manner with the University community

Other Responsibilities – 5%

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s Degree preferred.
2. Strong ability to recruit student athletes in the context of NCAA Division III philosophy.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
4. Strong organizational skills.
5. Successful intercollegiate coaching and/or playing experience.
6. Willingness to support the Mission and Core Values of the University.
