The Waldorf University Athletics Department is seeking qualified and interested candidates for Head Esports Coach. This is a full-time position beginning August 1st, 2025, with preference to start part-time sooner for recruitment efforts. The ideal candidate will have a commitment to the mission of Waldorf University and be committed to the development of the student-athlete physically, mentally, spiritually, and morally. This position is primarily 10-month (August through May annually) position with limited time commitments during June and July to complete any ongoing recruitment activities, attendance or representation at orientation day and the Athletic department fundraising event(s), as well as monitoring and responding to email or messages as needed.

Key responsibilities include in-game coaching, recruiting, budgeting, fundraising/sponsorships, alumni relations, community engagement, scheduling, promoting, training and conditioning, skill instruction, academic support, compliance, and game plan preparation and strategy. This position will be responsible for the continued development of a competitive and successful Esports program. Waldorf’s Esports program competes in approximately 20-25 events a year. Ideal candidate will be a skilled recruiter and appreciate student and program development. This position will also include a collateral within department or other area of the University to be determined.

Coaching Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)

• Demonstrate strong organizational, communication and leadership skills with athletes and University staff/faculty.
• Organize and motivate student-athletes to maximum performance level in their sport and academic achievements.
• Recruit and retain quality student-athletes.
• Provide instruction of associated skill sets, fundamentals, coaching skills and psychological skills training.
• Schedule & coordinate practices, contests
• Set and maintain a high standard of compliance with all institutional rules and regulations at all times for self, coaching staff, and athletes
• Meet administration, mentoring and retaining student-athletes’ goals
• Monitor and manage annual sport budgets (fiscal responsibility) and fundraising
• Manage program providing clear guidance and expectations.
• Organize and manage camps and clinics.
• Represent program and university in a positive manner including being a positive role model.
• Contribute to department through active participation in meetings, serving on committees and any other duties

Qualifications & Experience Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required. Consideration will be given to those candidates with an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
• At least one year competitive Esports experience involving multi player online video games with team-based elements. Gaming experience and/or proficiency with the following titles: League of Legends, Overwatch, Rocket League, Smash Brothers, and Hearthstone, and NBA 2K/League.
• Demonstrated ability to successfully recruit, attract, and retain students.
• Experience coaching Esports athletes preferred.
• Ability to cast a vision to develop and grow the program.
• Experience with network/IT set ups in relation to Esports gaming, and development of social media platforms for streaming video game feeds for public consumption.
• Familiarity with fundraising, alumni relations, and community engagement in addition to previous budgetary management experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and willingness to transport team as needed.
