POSITION SUMMARY:

The Head Tennis Coach is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of intercollegiate men’s and women’s tennis programs. This includes coaching, recruiting, budget management, fundraising, community engagement, and academic monitoring.

This position is supervised by the associate athletics director and supervises the assistant coaches.

• Lead the men’s and women’s tennis programs in practices, competitions, and off-court development.
• Evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes; implement a strategic recruiting plan.

• Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assistant coaches.
• Scout opponents and develop competitive strategies.
• Monitor academic progress, retention, and eligibility of student-athletes.
• Foster a culture of good sportsmanship and personal accountability.
• Develop and communicate clear expectations to student-athletes regarding performance, behavior, and academic standards.
• Collaborate with support staff in facilities, transportation, and game operations.
• Assist with departmental alumni engagement and community outreach efforts.
• Ensure full compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and institutional rules and policies.
• Participate actively in athletic department meetings, initiatives, and campus-wide events.
• Plan and execute program fundraising efforts.
• Support the mission and values of Alma College and the athletics department.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree
• Minimum of 2 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level or demonstrated success as a head coach at the high school level
• Knowledge of NCAA and MIAA rules and regulations
• Demonstrated organizational skills, event and camp planning, recruiting success, and budget management
• Commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Willingness to actively coach, including on-court participation
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
• Commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes
• Ability to serve as a positive ambassador for Alma College in all interactions
• Availability for evening and weekend work and overnight travel
• Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree
• Prior coaching experience at an NCAA Division III institution
• Experience working with underrepresented, first-generation, Pell-eligible, and diverse populations
